Great and easy to use

Some would say the photographic light meter should have faded out with photographic film. The LCD screen at the back of most DSLRs make it possible to do without it for most applications. Sekonic & Gossen are the last of the big names still producing light meters so it was imperative that this current range contained everything photographers could ask for, and it does to some extent.I bought the feature-packed L478 DR-EL (fully compatible with Elinchrom Skyport) and it is a very good meter, great studio flash compatibility, large LCD display which is visible in bright sunlight, certainly is a high spec device but, on the down side, it isn’t quite as well built as my old Sekonic L-358! The other possible criticism is the cost, which is high for what it is especially when you look at the quality of construction. Don’t get me wrong, the build quality is adequate but just not up to the level of my old Sekonic L-358 which is a pity. The carry case supplied is slightly sub-standard with the option to buy a better one which should have been included in the first place. And don’t even think about the costly 5 Degree Spot Viewfinder attachment, you’d be better off buying the flagship Sekonic Speedmaster Pro L-858D with the feature built in. Overall, this a very good light meter, just a little over-priced.
