I have high expectations of it.Update July 2014. This has proved outstandingly useful in winching canoes up a steep river bank. It's attached to a strong post above the bank and is a godsend!

Easy to use good value

I was looking for a way to safely lift and lower items into and out of the loft in our new house, which in the past has been quite dangerous (passing heavy audio equipment such as large subwoofers).The new house we have bought has much taller ceilings, which meant it was no longer possible to pass items by hand.After I figured out a way of mounting this winch so that it was properly secure, I began using it (along with flat rope/nylon straps) for the purpose outlined above.It is fantastic (and cheap) and we trust this to do the job without failing and causing serious injury. I did test this to make sure that it would be strong enough before we started putting it to use by hanging from it myself (I weigh approximately 75kgs). It makes light work of pulling loads in.You can rely on this product to serve you time and again as we have done, but beware that it does come with a caution in the box saying that it is unsuitable for use on humans and it should only be used for pulling, not lifting (just take caution and make up your own mind). The length of the cable is far greater than our needs, but this definitely goes in its favour going back to what it is actually designed for (and most of you will be interested in).The only reason I haven't given it a five star rating is because I have run my hand along the length of the cable and there are parts of it where I can feel some of the individual cable strands have detached themselves so they are no longer seamless (if you run the cable through your hand you will know when this is occurring because the cable cuts your skin) and in time perhaps these will unravel, which concerns me (but I will keep a vigilant eye on the condition of it before loading it with any weight). I accept that most people will not touch the cable itself, but if you care about what you are pulling, you will want to be confident that there are no weaknesses which could cause the winch to fail (which may lead to your equipment being damaged or worse, e.g. someone could get injured by what you were pulling) and if you check the cable like me you might just end up with cuts on your hands too.

Excellent quick response

Bought this for my grandson as a sort of extra present. He was having trouble getting items up to his tree house and I knew this would solve the problem. He now winches his younger brother up there. They both tried to winch their grandfather up, the winch took his weight easily but unfortunately the boys let him go too soon and he had a few bruises, but not the fault of the winch I can assure you. He is quite recovered. Thanks for a good product.
