it sounds good to me and has ample volume
After using a SCART adapter to connect headphones to a Samsung TV (without a headphone socket) for many years I came across a problem when I tried to to use it with a Chromecast device. The TV simply did not output HDMI audio over the SCART connection. After a quick search I found out that a DAC should solve the problem by using the TV's optical out. I wanted something that was cheap, small and could be powered from a spare USB port on the TV. The ESYNiC DAC ticked all these boxes. It took 2 minutes to install and works perfectly. I am using an old set of Philips SHC2000/05 Wireless Headphones and although I am not an audio connoisseur, it sounds good to me and has ample volume.Considering you get the DAC, USB power cable and an optical cable for £9.99, it is very good value for money. The only thing they could add, is a piece of self adhesive velcro to allow you to stick it to the back of the TV, but that's being very picky.

A turned sceptic ... this is a great little DAC !
Well, I gotta admit I was sceptical of this for the price, but thought I'd chance this DAC, as it seemed an easy solution to extract audio from TV to conventional amp (ie no HDMI on amp). This does the job very well (so far), it was easy enough to install with using the supplied optical cable from TV to the DACs input, a decent phono cable from DAC to amp and the supplied USB cable to power the unit; in my case, the USB of my Panasonic TV provides sufficient output to power the DAC, so no need for another power source. The audio conversion seems to be very good, no obvious distortion or lack of clarity, no interference or white noise of any sort, even on the quietest of scenes. If being used for similar conversion, you'll need to check the output mode of your TV optical interface and ensure this is set to PCM, note too that this DAC will only convert to standard stereo output to amp and not help with any Dolby surround/5.1/Atmos output.BTW, this is a digital to analogue converter only and can not be used in reverse to convert analogue to digital. One final note, digital/optical output on a TV is not varied by volume control and is fixed. If this DAC is used for TV to amp, you will not be able to alter volume from TV remote but must use the volume on your amp (I was aware of this but many folk may not realise). On this note, this also raises the only criticism, that being the output of this DAC is quite low so the volume of the connected amp does need to be cranked up ... not a show stopper but be aware. It's a simple and neat unit, easily hidden out of the way and doing an admirable job, considering its price point.

Worth the price for the sound improvement over a normal TV system
It works exactly as I wanted - met my needs. The sound output feeds into Hi-Fi system and I enjoy clearer, more detailed reproduction, This is particularly noticeable on music videos which I watch. For the price, I am satisfied.

Digital to Analog sound.
This digital to analog audio converter enabled me to connect my new TV to an old stereo system and the music sounded perfect. With full instructions it was easy to install.

Low volume
My new Samsung TV did not have a audio line output or headphone socket and so I purchased this optical DAC to allow me play the TV sound through my Denon amp and speakers.Volume output issues:The line output and headphone socket on this DAC has no volume control and is fixed at a very low level. This means I have to crank up the volume control on my Denon amplifier to a very high level. This is annoying as when switching to a different sound source like CD or DVD I have to remember to wind the volume level down or I will be blasted with very loud music!!The low level from this DAC also caused another problem as my Denon amplifier has a standby mode feature that is activated if the amplifier doesn't detect any input signal over a 20 minute period. As the output from this DAC is so low my Denon amp would go into standby mode while listening to the TV. Consequently I had to keep re-activating my Denon amp every 20 mins!!Sound quality:I was not impressed with the sound quality from this DAC. There seemed to be a total lack of bass content especially noticeable when listening to music or a film. Even with the bass control on my Denon amp cranked up to the maximum level the sound was "tinny" with hardly any bass.I guess you get what you pay for so I returned this DAC and purchased an Avantree DAC at £24.99 which has a volume control. The Avantree is far better with a descent output volume level and a full rich sounding output.
