We have a terrier who likes to sneak out the gate and go hunting, and after about the zillionth time my kids slammed it without checking that it latched, I decided to act before he got run over.After looking at a number of options, I decided this was the best option--and I'm glad I did. It's quiet, affordable, durable, easy to install, and doesn't require weights and pulleys. And right out of the box, it's easily strong enough to ensure the fate always latches, but doesn't slam it any louder than the kids normally do.The only drawback is that once installed, you can't open the gate past about 90 degrees. The only time I even did that was when moving something bulky, and that's not a problem since I can easily just block it open or add a catch to hold it in those rare cases. That's the right solution though--blocking it open when you want it to stay open and trusting it to close the rest of the time is far better than constantly checking to see if the dogs has run out.

I purchased and put a 90 degree bend where I needed it. The gate closer works as intended and I would recommend the seller to offer this bent option. I like the option of adjusting the tension. This is worth the money spent. I purchased Stainless Steel Black Lag Bolts 1/4" x 1-1/4" Hex Lag Screws (25 pcs) 18-8 Stainless Black Oxidized in USA from Amazon for the mounting screws.

While fairly easy to mount, I couldn’t get enough tension to close a simple cedar fence gate that is about 6 ft tall and around 42 inches in width. Hoping to send it back.

The Gate Shut hinge worked well for 2.5 years on a gate opened multiple times daily, but failed today, shearing off where the long bottom piece connects to the main spring.

I have been trying for years to find a way to make sure that our front gate closed reliably by itself so I didn't have to worry about our dog getting out or the deer getting in. It's a heavy, 6' tall wood gate, with wind blowing on it most days. I've been through more of the usual gate springs than I can count -- even tried putting three of them on at once. I've tried so-called self closing hinges. Of course I also tried posting a big note on the door asking all delivery people and visitors to please make sure to close the gate behind them. None of these approaches worked with any kind of regularity. Then I finally spotted this gate closer on Amazon and decided what the heck, might as well try one more product. Lo and behold, this one actually works, 100% of the time. And that is without even tightening to its maximum tension level. Easy to install, looks to be very sturdy. My problem is solved!

Easy to put on. So far, the gate closes. We have had very strong windd, which blew the gate open (cant latch it because mailman comes thru). But this little thing closes the gate. I hope it keeps working.

It works well. Only problem is where the spring rubs the fence it will wear the fence down. It comes with a piece to put there but it’s plastic no metal. The rest is very sturdy metal. Works as described.
