The best value purchase I've made on Amazon in a while.
I'm not even a "sailor" guy.. But I quite like this pen. I first must say that my idea of what makes a quality writing instrument has nothing to do with neither size nor mass.. I like smaller pens, they work better for me. My main gripe about most popular pens is that they are too dang long.. For years, the apex for me was a nice Pilot Elite. Smooth writer. Hate the convertor, but hey.. Then my father gave me his old Pelikan M250 (or 200.. I think those had gold nibs back in the 80s). He hadn't used it in 30 years.. Unkillable that pen. But it challenged everything I thought i knew about what a good pen was: It was not heavy, made of plastic with gold appointments. The nib was fairly scratchy to the point that at first i thought it needed tuning or repair. After some time i understood: Such a pen, while it might not be the smoothest writing experience, gives life to one's writing. The flex of the nib just makes the words leap off of the page. This pen has some clear similarities. So, I love the Pelikan M line, but while this pen though roughly the same size as a 200, is not a piston pen. It is a simple cartridge pen. Some people will love this, some will hate it, but with a M or smaller nib, i don't think it matters really. There is quite a bit of feedback with this nib. I've been using the fairly dry Sailor Blue-Black (a personal favorite BB) and it sort of feels like i'm writing with an engineering pencil. I haven't wanted to move far past the Sailor range but i did try one Iroshizuku ink and it did not feel great. Sailor black makes a nice line in this pen. There is much less flex than in my, now, well loved Pelikan, but i suspect with use the nib will start to break in. I would also rate this nib squarely in the F category, though i think they market it as a "Medium-Fine" or some such thing. I was not prepared for how beautiful this pen would be and the feel of the pen while writing has absolutely grown on me (who used to solely rate nibs by how smooth they felt). Despite the feedback, there are no sudden skips or hard starts evidenced in my writing. It's a pretty good option to keep inked long term. It is a stark contrast to a Pilot or Twisbi, but if you are a fan of the current Pelikan M200 or M205, this would be a shockingly good alternative for less. One caveat: I think i bought this pen for 85$ and Pro Gear Slims are usually about 3 times that

Great, but there's a few things nobody mentions
The pen writes excellently. Has the famous "Sailor feedback" people kept mentioning, which is why I bought it. It seems durable and I'm confident it will last a very long time with proper maintenance. But there's a few things that some other buyers may think it shou1. It doesn't have a converter. I remember some reviews showing it with a converter, but perhaps they ordered it separately or had one beforehand, because mine did not come with one. Only two black cartridges.2. The pen probably isn't quite as small as you think. Some people think it's nearly microscopic, but it certainly isn't. It's smaller than many other pens, but unless you have particularly massive hands, it shouldn't be uncomfortable for you.3. The gold nib is very, very stiff. Many people, myself included, may have bought this expecting that because gold is a soft metal, the pen would have a nice, soft, or at least bouncy nib. This is incorrect, the nib is as hard as a nail, even some of my steel pens have softer nibs. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it is something to be aware of.4. Apparently some people describe the pen as being quite dry. This couldn't be further from the truth for me, as this is probably my wettest nib by far, ink flows basically effortlessly from it with no skipping or hard starts.5. This is NOT a medium nib. If you order the medium nib, you are actually ordering a medium-fine. It is still a nice nib, but the size you are ordering is likely not accurate. That's all that I think needs to be said. I still very much recommend this pen, its truly a unique experience if you've never owned a Sailor pen before. Although I don't think it's worth the $220 MSRP, the $70 or so it costs here is well worth it.

I did get my pen.
I am a little concerned about the delivery of my pen. I have been checking the progress. Since Jun 21st there are 8 messages telling me that this package has been transferred to another carrier for delivery. All of them are from Los Angles. My pen did arrive on June 27th. four days before the estimated delivery date.I have just done a test writing. It is a very smooth writer. I have two petty items though. I wish it was a bit longer. As long as I post the cap it is quite acceptable. The write up said that a converter was included. It wasn't in mine. All in all though I am very satisfied with the fountain pen. It is very good looking and writes like a dream. I am trying to improve my penmanship to match the quality of the pen.I also am very pleased with the black ink cartridge that was included with the pen. I would like to know exactly which Sailor black ink is in the cartridge so I can buy more of it. I did buy a converter so I want to get some Sailor bottled ink to use with it.

What a great little pen
It’s a small pen but I’m a big guy and it’s a great size for me, when posted. I like and use it more than I expected. The color is also beautiful.. and that good nib is also fantastic. Sailors are known for feedback and I’ve heard it feels like a newly sharper pencil. That’s exactly what it’s like. I was worried I wouldn’t like that, before it arrived but now I think I prefer it. It’s a soft, elegant type of feedback that I think makes my handwriting better. I’ve been reaching for this over my super smooth pilot 743 lately. I like this one so much, I’m seriously considering a Sailor 1911.

Scratchy
Nice enough pen other than the very disappointing, scratchy nib. Not what I would expect from Sailor.

First Sailor PGS I've ever bought. Excellent pen!
I've been using fountain pens for a little bit now, and I had wanted to try a Sailor PGS but couldn't justify the price util I saw this listing. It is an original, <MF> 14kt gold nib. Feels like writing with a newly sharpened pencil, slight feedback but no fear of ripping even the cheapest of papers. If you're thinking of buying one from here, do it! Totally worth it!
