The Definitive Blu-ray set- Thanks for Listening Viz!
This set has *substantially*improved picture quality when compared to the first sets of2014. If you are a fan for a longtime , you are aware that clear , good copies of this show have been non- existent in America for years . Even the earlier DVDS from the early 2000’s looked like they came from a bad VHS.This set is what you have wanted . The digital scans of the series that were used on these sets are over 20 years old and from the original Japanese DVD sets which have been considered the golden standard for a long time. These are not high definition scans from a new source, but digitally processed to upscale the image into a higher resolution . However , this newer remastering from TOEI is SMOOTH, retains it’s filmlike consistency and intentional soft focus, and light film grain. It’s enjoyable to watch and detail is extremely clear .Until the sailor moon series is re- scanned from the original film sources , this will be the highest quality North American copy of the series. It looks beautiful and it I finally feel like the series has been presented in a way that shows the best of its artwork. I hope that Viz continues to release the subsequent seasons with improved image quality . This set is magnificent and what collectors and fans have dreamed of for a long time.

A vast improvement over the original Viz release
The Audio and Image quality are very good. I've never seen sailor moon in such high quality. Watching Sailor Moon in Japanese was quite a treat. I still love the original English Dub of Sailor Moon but I like how the Japanese version has consistent lore and attack naming conventions. I just couldn't get into the new dub. I hate Stephanie Sheh's voice. It is like nails on a chalkboard. I found the other voice actresses didn't suit the characters. They were either too generic or similar in tone and style. Sailor Venus and Sailor Uranus and Neptune had good voice casting. Everyone else was meh. Tuxedo Mask was okay.

Best version of Sailor Moon
All right, I don't normally make reviews especially since many of them are fake, and it's difficult to sift through them if there's something you're super interested in. You want to believe the positive voices but they seem too good to be true. For this version of Sailor Moon Season 1, the positive reviews were true. This is the best version of Sailor Moon. I don't know how to describe it other than absolutely aesthetic. There's something about 90's anime, Sailor Moon's got it, and this version brightens those lines and colors even more. The extras included, such as the interviews with the English cast and the trailers, were all welcome, and I like that they were spaced through each disk. If you're on the fence about making the purchase, DO IT, or in the name of the moon, I will punish you!

Who knew Sailor Moon was actually a good show
I grew up in the 90s and have known of Sailor Moon pretty much all my life, but I never really watched it because I was around 7-9yrs old when it was being broadcast here in the USA, and to me it was a girls show and being young the few times I did watch it, I didn't know what was going on because I wasn't used to shows with overarching stories(same with Dragon Ball Z, I can remember trying to watch it and being dropped right in the middle of Goku Vs. Frieza Arc and being so confused). I can remember not being able to tell Usagi and Minako apart, and having no idea what was going on, so I never really watched more than a snippet or two. Now in 2024 I am watching it for the first time. I love art and drawing, so I love watching animated TV shows, and really don't watch TV otherwise. Through the first 6 or so episodes of Sailor Moon I was not impressed, it was the same dull cookie cutter episode after another with poorly done battles. Then Ami got introduced and having more than just Usagi, who really couldn't do much for the show on her own, it started getting better despite the episodes still following the same script. After Rei was introduced it got more interesting, until finally Mako and Minako joined the group. With everyone present the interactions began to become more interesting, and slowly a more significant plot began to emerge. To be clear if you expect to see battles which is kind of what I expected going in then you will be disappointed. The battles/fight scenes are lame... that's just the truth. It is the same cut scenes recycled over and over, it's basic and boring. The actual story is where it will shine, and if you like 90s animation(like I do) you will also enjoy it. I can say I find their boy crazy antics really funny, and I know I would not have thought so in the 90s or as a teen, so I think I'm watching this at the right time. There is some pretty dark stuff in here as well which was kinda surprising because I guess I just had a picture in my head what to expect. I enjoy more of the dialog and relationships, and seeing them in their human form is more entertaining. The older anime has a feel to it that newer anime just seem to be lacking. I think Mako is my favorite, and I like Minako, Rei, and Ami, and Usagi is my least favorite despite liking her just fine. The picture quality is significantly better than the DVD release.

A Well Needed Upgrade
8 years later and Viz Media has re-released Sailor Moon in a complete season box set. When I first heard the announcement, there was a little skepticism, after all we just finished buying the original series and it's now getting re-released, what's the point? This new Blu Ray release is well worth the upgrade. The two main factors to go for this set are that you obviously now get the full season in one nice box, but the other making it sooo worth it. The picture quality has been vastly improved from the oversaturated, ghosting mess that was the 2014-15 releases of the first season. It seems Viz was finally able to get their hands on the Japanese Blu Ray remaster that just came out and have now supplied it on their release. Finally you can watch Sailor Moon in the best picture quality available in Japanese and with Viz's newer dub of the show. This is a must buy for any Sailor Moon fan, a 10/10.
