Good NVR for Home or Small Business, Setup Could Be Easier
I've had this Hikvison NVR running for about three weeks, and so far I'm very happy with it (4-1/2 stars happy). I used the iVMS-4200 app to initially configure it. Frankly, it's a little confusing setting these up - and I've done this a few times. First you setup the network info, then you activate the device, and add it to your list of managed devices. The interface for the iVMS-4200 app is just confusing, but once you get the hang of it, it's easier. For storage, I've added a WD Purple 6 TB hard drive, which seems to work just fine. I plan to add a second after I add more cameras. For cameras, I've added a 2.8mm lens Hikvision turrent-style camera. These are the kind without a glass dome, and they are much less conspicuous than the dome variety. I configured the camera to only record when it detects motion, which really saves on disk space, and makes searching for events easier. After initial setup, I did some customization. For example, I setup e-mail alerts for when a camera stops working, or an illegal login happens. I use a Gmail account for this, and it is possible to get Gmail working with TLS security, if you follow these instructions that I found on the interwebs:Get Gmail Working in Hikvision:1. Open iVMS-4200, navigate to Device Management, Remote Configuration, Event, Email2. User Name: email address WITHOUT @gmail.com3. Password: your Gmail password4. SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com5. Port: 5876. E-mail Encryption: SSLThen setup a destination e-mail address and test it - it should work. Note that port 587 is for TLS, even though you check the box for SSL. TLS is more secure than SSL.So to re-cap, this is a good NVR with many useful features, it could be easier to setup, but if you are OK with entering IP addresses and default gateways, then you'll be fine.

after less than 2 weeks of use system randomly stops recording. Useless.
Purchased this with WD Purple 6tb drive as recommended. Configured 11 Hikvision cameras and ran for two weeks recording motion. Now system will record 12 to 18 hours then just stops recording anything. I can view all cameras through live view but only way to get recording to restart is to reboot the system. I have repeated this 5 times now. I have completely reset the system back to full default and instead of running all 11 cameras just ran two but still the system randomly stops recording. Does not freeze up, just stops recording, making the system useless. The logs do not tell me anything and there is no documentation available to help determine what much of the log entries means. Need to return this.Update 9/26/2017 although I contacted and exchanged several emails with the reseller they offered no solution and have not agreed to just take back the unit. I did however find they sold me an international version unit. There are different versions of the firmware out there including a newer version of international on the Hikvision Europe website. I was able to upgrade but no fix. Decided to try the firmware available on the US site. Even though this is an international version (they did not disclose this at time of purchase) the US firmware will run apparently. All of my Hikvision cameras are US/English and run latest firmware. It would help if the resellers would be more forthcoming and disclose the target market for the firmware. But these are essentially gray market items so buyer beware. My experience indicates there is an issue with the international firmware working with US/English based Hikvision cameras (I am running 11 Hikvision cameras. My review stays at 1 star due to the total lack of support from the reseller based on my email exchange they have little understanding and just want to sell you an NVR.

Works great
I bought this NVR to replace an older 6 year old hybrid DVR/NVR I have. I have new Ezviz cameras which connect seemlessly to the new NVR (I set them with static IP addresses). I don't have any cameras connected to the NVR via POE (as yet). I have some other IP cameras from different vendors such Reolink and Foscam which I was able to easily connect using ONVIF. So I can view and record from all my different cameras regardless of brand. So far I am very pleased with my purchase.

Not what I expected
I bought what was supposedly the same exact one that I did a few years back. I even clicked the buy it again link. But it has newer software and in no way performs like the previous one. It has way more options and maybe I’m just stupid but I can’t make it work right. Definitely not for an amateur. It is also extremely clunky when trying to play back video. Probably going to give up and throw it in the trash and get another one.

Best NVR I've found for the price.
Very flexible product. This will work with almost any network camera out there. Supports 4k too.

Tec Support
Both sides of box said it connected to all cameras and didn't. Tec Support could not get it going and he speaks poor broken English. Only NVR with live view motion detection. Damn shame tec could not fix problems even controlling my pc remotely.
