It doesn't blow up.
I often hot swap the converter into and out of RS485 /RS232 connections as part of troubleshooting. Any other converters would stop working. I've been through many. This one keeps on working regardless of whether I hot swap or not.

Works and I love the Xmit Rcv LEDs
I have only used 4 of these but so far they have been great. And did I mention I love having the send, recv LEDs. Usually, I have no dropped data with these.
