Black pieces were scuffed and chipped
I just opened it. I love the design. But for the price. All the black paint was chipped on most of the pieces. Silver came out great.I would not have bought this for that price in the bad condition it arrived in . Very disappointed 😢Other than that. The chess board looked good, and the box is decent. I am debating whether to repaint myself or send back for refund 😢

We bought this for our daughters friend. I’m jealous, because it’s insanely nice. The pieces are heavy and high quality. I highly recommend

Lovely, Indian-themed chess set
My family has enjoyed board games for several generations, including the ultimate international board game: chess. Over the past couple of years, we were thrilled to see the interest in chess rising again thanks to the Queen's Gambit mini-series. Then, I also want to stress: Even though I enjoy chess, I'm not a master at it. I play only occasionally and often lose. Still I love the game.Since my father introduced me to chess in the '60s, I've always appreciated that this is a 1-on-1 game that typically takes quite a while to play. We own chess clocks, but almost never use them. When we choose to play chess, we're happy to let the game takes its time. I also have to say: When we gather as a family for holidays or special events, we almost never choose chess as the game we'll play because only 2 players can participate. However, when you've got a time you want to spend with a relative or friend over a board game, simply enjoying each other's company, there's nothing like a good game of chess. And I say that as a player who loses more than he wins.I'm explaining that family context so you'll understand why even casual chess players like to have a number of beautiful chess sets on the shelf. If we're going to play, it's an "occasion." We know we'll be sitting across from a friend or relative for more than an hour, looking at the game board and pieces. When we handle those pieces, we want them to be properly weighted. (This set calls the pieces simply "heavy" and that is, indeed, an apt description that chess players will understand.)As I have worked around the world as a journalist, I like to bring back chess sets that I've found in places like Jerusalem (handmade in olive wood) or Scotland (there are many replicas of the famous Lewis chessmen). They're a way of bringing the globe's cultural diversity into our home. So, that's a long way of explaining why I love this Indian-themed metal chess set and why someone you love may collect a few sets and occasionally enjoy pulling one out for a game. This particular board is made of metal sheeting that is tooled with an elephant on each square, then is laid over a wooden base. The pieces themselves are not necessarily "Indian" in motif, but I love the look and feel of them. The case that comes with the set is sturdy. The game pieces fit snugly into the foam "base"—and I really am impressed that the case is designed to hold the board itself! That's remarkable because this board is not hinged and does not fold. It's a solid piece and fits neatly into the "top" of the case. This is a lovely addition to our game shelf. I'm pleased to give this a 5-star review and urge others to choose this option, perhaps for a special gift: maybe for yourself or for a loved one who enjoys chess.
