Westcott Grid Ruler with Metal Cutting Edge, 1.5 x 12, Transparent (B-1M)

I like clear measuring grid. I like the metal strip on one side. Great to use with cutting blade. I also like the other side which is beveled. Makes it easier to use with inks. No smearing.

That's kinda it. Obviously the best features are the ones you probably bought it for, the hard edge for cutting along and the clear ruler that makes it much easier to align work. It's great for what it does.

C-Thru used to manufacture these B-1M rulers. I have had three of them for probably more than 15 years. They were -- and still are -- a good quality product.Westcott purchased the C-Thru line in 2012.I ordered two Westcott B-1M rulers as the grid bottom is starting to wear away on my older C-Thru rulers.The metal cutting edge is held in place in its slot with glue. Westcott is using a little too much glue and it leaked out and dried on both rulers. The worse of the two has dried glue on the bottom as well as the edge and the top of the ruler. It tends to slip when I try to hold it down to cut.Both metal edges are pitted and rough.The plastic ends of the rulers are also rough and uneven.It is too late to return the rulers, as I did not examine them when I first received them. I assumed the quality of the product would match the rulers I already had. A lesson learned!

I love these metal edge plastic rulers.As someone who does a lot of crafting and cutting, the metal edge along the side of this plastic ruler is incredibly helpful. Years ago in art school, I frequently made accidental gouges in plastic rulers and straightedges until I found this product at a local art store. I used that same ruler for over decade. Over the years some of the numbers and lines started to wear off, and then this year I noticed the glue holding the metal strip in place was starting to give out. I searched on Amazon and found the exact same ruler, and am now so happy to have it again in mint condition!I love this ruler, and I bet you will too.

The ruler is sturdy but the glue/cement used to secure the metal edge into the side had oozed out along the edge. I had to spend some time scraping dried glue/cement off the metal strip in order to get a clean edge for cutting.

This is my second B-1M ruler. I still use my original, I needed another one to take to crafting. I’ve had the original one for 25 years. It was called C-Thru before and made in USA. This is made in China, but same quality. Very sturdy, markings are accurate and metal edge installed correctly. Don’t buy other brands, this ruler is excellent for paper crafting.

I have used this ruler for years for scrapbooking to cut mats for photos and love that it is clear so I can see all the marking on the ruler for the entire length of the ruler. I only wish it came in a 14" length to work with 12"x12" paper. The metal edge is a must for cutting with an exacto knife.

As other reviews stated, the metal edge has blobs of excess glue all over it, making it useless for straight cuts. I was able to clean it up by running a razor blade over it a few times, but that shouldn't be necessary for a $10 ruler. Other than that the ruler is very nice.
