Q: What do have to do to make this air horn work?

Unless it is defective, just attach the horn part and press the top button. If you do not attach the horn, it still makes a high pitched sound. I use it both ways to alter the sound. I have 2 yorkies. There is a den of red fox in the woods behind me and Mamma fox runs at the sound. If you cannot get it to work, I would say it is defective. There is one on line that is a tad bigger and just a few dollars more. It works well, also. Wally World sells them in the boating/ sporting goods section.

Q: What is the shelf life of this air horn if it is not used right away? Thank you!

The Personal 911 like all air horns is considered an aerosol product. As a manufacture we usually say 1 to 3 years. However, for the most part the shelf life of the horn is as long as It's container will hold the propellent in. That could be longer even much longer. Thank you.

Q: Is there any way to attach it to your belt?

Hi...we do have a holster available with elastic side panels and metal belt clip that was designed for the 35mm Dog Horn. The Personal 911 is 25mm wide so it fits but not as snug.
