Q: Can owners please advise how good it is at radiating heat outwards for thos sitting around it. I want to use it as a patio heater.

It's very good at radiating heat outward once it is burning properly. Be careful if you load it above the rim of the pit however as you will get some large flames and some smoke emerging from the pit itself which can swing around with the wind. If you can't use pieces small enough to fit inside below the lip of the pit then sit a bit further back until it's burned inside enough that you can poke the larger pieces back inside and then it will burn beautifully inside the pit itself and give off lots of heat with very little smoke. It does go through fuel fairly quickly though (because it burns efficiently and generates lots of heat) so if you're planning on being outside for a while make sure you have lots of small logs and firewood ready to go. We loaded it with old pallet pieces and some were sticking out about 6 inches and we had to wait around 20 minutes after getting it going before we could move closer to it but it gave off good heat throughout and a single fire load lasted about an hour

Q: How much heat is generated at the fire pit base? Would I be able to put this directly onto wooden decking?

I popped a couple of bricks inside (between bottom of it and the shelf you put the logs on) to give the fire part a bit more clearance from the ground, and it was fine on my wooden balcony. Surprisingly good actually.
