so far, so good
After reading some of the reviews, it seems as though this unit doesn't have a bunch of range, which is what I need. We have an outdoor dog run that we clean several times a day. The "dog droppings" get deposited into a 5 gallon bucket with a bag inside and a lid. The bag is thrown away every other day, but the flies still swarm around it. This unit actually cuts down the amount of flies. We see them fried on the zapper and hear them every now and then. The little LED light is kinda neat when it gets dark. Only question I have is, how long will it last? Only time will tell. I'll update as needed

This makes me wonder if others are like this as well
I was just about to call Amazon to make a complaint about your product. As you know Washington only gets a few months of summer throughout the year and when we do get a sunny day it seems that all sorts of bugs comes out as well. That is why I ordered this product. When it first arrived I read the instructions and left it out in the sun for 2 days and it is now the 5th day and I haven't seen this thing work. First day I put it on "light" to charge in sunlight did not work, then put it on "killing bugs" still did not work and the 3rd option is "off" I will need to have this replace or something because it is not working and this is my first solar bug killer I ordered. This makes me wonder if others are like this as well..... Would like it replaced, return or refunded.....

I bought one in the spring and liked it so much I bought another two
I bought one in the spring and liked it so much I bought another two. Now that the summer is here the story is a little different. The lights have turned dim and it only operates for a few hours a night. I recharged several batteries and put them in and it worked the same way it did in the spring. It is obvious the batteries are not being charged. I have solar panels the house and know that their efficiency goes down when they get hot. I suspect that the solar cells in the zapper become very inefficient when they get hot. The cells are sealed in a black housing and there isn't any ventilation. The black housing gets so hot that you don't want to touch it. The black plastic is starting to turn whitish. I have plastic cleaner I use on the spa and cleaning the housing with it seems to restore the plastic somewhat.

barely works
Already tossed the box, was only $12. not worth sending back. unit does not automatically come on at dark. You have to manually slide a switch over. and after in the sun all day, the light and zapper only stay on for less then 1 hour..

Updated review
It lasted 4 days, killed a few bugs, then died. I was annoyed at that point, but I thought I'd put some effort into it... Turns out this is pretty good. You have three settings OFF/Bug killer/light. I do not think the light can be on at the same time as bug killing mode, so I'm not sure how that really works yet. I will edit again once I've done that. But I turned it off and let it charge for three days because we've had some cloudy days. Turned it back on and it works. Construction wise it is not bad at all, not great but this is a solar powered light you may need to turn it off and let it charge for a day or or two here and there once every couple of weeks maybe? It won't rid you of bugs, but it helps and it's a decent little accent light.

Zapper light is weak and unit is small
This unit has three settings. Off, light and Zapper. The light setting is bright and will attract bugs but the Zapper setting is so weak that if any light is near the Zapper the bugs go there instead. I bought this for killing moths but it is so small it is only good to kill a few small bugs. I am sending it back.

Great for the price
After reading the previous reviews, I could understand why there are so many frustrations because when I 1st owned this, I was also frustrated. I also thought it didn't work since the light didn't come on no matter what option I switched it to. When I opened it up, I grabbed the wired part thinking it was broken, but it shocked me so I knew it worked. The customer service was friendly and mentioned how it lights up if it was dark enough and sure enough it did. If it is charged enough, put your hand over the solar panel and you'd see it light up (you also have to leave it on for it to charge). At night I had the most satisfying feeling when I saw some sparks here and there as the gnats ran into it, although I didn't hear any zaps like the bigger bug zappers would make. Just keep in mind that this is small and solar charged so it's not going to be super powerful, but it will get the job done the eco-friendly way. Especially for the price, I thought it was great.

A shockingly great buy...for us, not the bugs!
Ok so here is the deal. I was so skeptical on this thing that it's comical but really this little dude got the last laugh because it's amazing! We live in the swampland of Florida so we have mosquitoes year round bit love to be outside so we needed something that we could have close by to us at our firepit. The one downfall is the light from the flames will trick out the little solar panel so we just cover it with a little piece of cardboard if we have a fire going. It's pretty quiet when it lights up a bugs life and even though its cheaply made this thing gets the bugs perfectly. Will be buying more to put around the perimeter.

Very bad product.
Would give zero stars if possible. Worked for less than two weeks and then gave up the ghost forever. The insect zapper does nor work any more and the light is so dim its pointless. It is in Spain and so gets blasted with sun all day and then......nothing.

Nice and neat little design
Nice and neat little design. It has dead flies in it so must work, but it's not as bright as I would like. I've yet to sit outside on an evening with this so not sure how effective it is.
