very nice hand crafted khukuri.
So first i have to say that the shipping was pretty good considering this blade came all the way from Nepal.Second it was packeged great and well oiled which is a good thing when ordering akhukuri from Nepal. Now for the khukuri it self it is a well made full tang construction with a beautiful buffalo horn handle there kind of buffalo not the american buffalo just FYI.I have always liked the no.1 service khukuri but wanted one with a full tang and low and behold EGKH makes one so ya hand to buy it.Just FYI there is nothing wrong with the service No.1 rat tail tang khukuri as well as they are super awsome and tuff as well.it came sharp with a well made sheath and I am very pleased with it and I think it will be a good work horse of a blade for me.this is not what they call a tourist khukuri in any sense of the word this is the real deal chop your finger's off if your not paying attention khukuri so keep that in mind. Now the one thing people need to understand is that these khukuri's are hadn made one at a time and it takes 4 men a full day to make one.they are not without blemishes here and there as they are hand forged with basic tools and skills that have been past down for centuries. So if you expect it to be perfect and that is what you are looking for then buy a western made blade made in a factory by machines because these are not that.they are made with 5160 leaf spring steel which also takes care and maintance they are a tool and a weapon and are designed to be easily repaired with minimal tools. They are also heat treated differently as well but they are super strong and durable as well. They are ment for many different task but if you are one of those people that thinks every knife or khukuri should be able to split giant logs then you will end up damaging your khukuri as that is not what it is made for that is why they make axes.Yes you can baton some wood but be reasobnable and sensable in what you decide to split with it.the khukuri is the blade that bridges the gap between knife and small axe or machete so look at it that way when using it.this is my 9th khukuri from Nepal from 4 different khukuri houses and I have been happy with them all.Me I suggest doing some research on the khukuri and what it is intended use is watch some videos about it and find a reputable place to buy one like EGKH and the pull the trigger. As for this blade I woudml recommend anyone that likes khukuri's or wants a service No.1 khukuri with a full tang blade to pick this one up.Just remember this is an 8 inch blade as well EGKH does make a 10.5 full tang one as well which is the size the gurkha's are issued.Anyway that is mt 2 cents for what it is worth.
