These are great lights and they don't get hot. The pamphlet gives an overall view of four button functions on the back which you choose what mode you want your lights in and then go to the second button and set it up and third and fourth buttons are up and down to change speed and so on. The values are numbers for Speed and what program you want to use with how many color changes in that particular program. Get the DMX chord so that each light will sync with an additional light unless you want each to run with separate scenes. I truly love these lights and wish the power cords were longer. Using one power strip with your karaoke machine and Lighting will cause your karaoke machine to lose some power so it is best to plug the light(s) in a different socket than your machine is plugged in to. I hope to order my third light next month. I use them on the floor or sit them on a table. The scene below had some light outside. One light does the job.

These are perfect except for the fact that the “settings” lights (on the back) never turn off.
