decent quality and value. thickens in a few minutes. works well as a fiber
I was using a prebiotic baobao tree based prebiotic fiber before. Not really that happy with it. Felt like it didn't do anything. And was gritty and irritated my throat. This gluomannan keeps the bowels moving better than my previous prebiotic fiber.I won't make any weight loss claims or magic health claims but it seems to work as a fiber. My bowels move slowly, but this fiber in the morning gets it jump started, so I have less bloating overall throughout the day.Do be aware it is a fiber that makes gelatin in Japanese food, so it will solidify after a couple of minutes. So if you mix it with a liquid, just drink it right away. I would say after 2-3 minutes its pretty viscous, and after 5 minutes it starts to solidify. I make it with hot tea that i chill with ice after brewing.I like it better than the prebiotic fiber powders made from Jerusalem artichoke or bao bao tree because it has zero flavor, and has zero gritty texture and doesn't irritate my throat.I use Nutricost BCAA powders and am happy with their other product, so that's why I chose Nutricost for my glucomannan powder. They seem to have a good mix of price and quality. So far so good for digestion. But I have no idea when it comes to weight loss or prebiotic or anything else.

gluten free thickener for food
I use this as a thickener. It is gluten free. I love to make gravy with it. it has no flavor. it helps with digestion and makes you feel full faster. great for blood pressure and cholesterol. Also great for weight loss... Gets real thick with jus a little sprinkle.

Very fast thickener, hard to drink, but good for cooking sauces.
This powder gels immediately, and it is therefore hard to swallow. But it is good for thick sauces when cooking. Put very little initially, stir in mixer or blender, and see what the effects are. It's easy to overdo

Thicker than another brand
I bought this brand for the price point because I take it 2 to 3 times a day. I have diverticulosis and had to take some type of fiber each morning to keep from having a flare-up per gastroenterologist. I was taking Metamucil but realized after about 6 months it was making my blood sugar sky-rocket. So looked around and discovered this because it actually makes your blood sugar go down in addition to addressing the other issue. Plus it comes with this cute little measuring scoop that does exactly 1/2 tsp. You should not ever take more than that at one time. I actually started off with 1/4 tsp to get used to it. So this container will last forever.I was taking the Now brand but ordered this due to a lower price and have started thickening my gravy with it so wanted larger quantity. I saw a video where someone had compared Now to another brand and Now thickened the most. So I decided to do my own test with this brand and the Nutricost thickened the most.I have some advice for those who are having trouble taking it. I like the powder way better than the pills. I have trouble swallowing capsules. They seem to float in my esophagus and will not go down and will cause major problems if you can't take a cup or more of water fast enough and they swell up in your stomach without sufficient fluids down there.First off, if you are serious about taking this stuff I highly recommend you buy a battery powered stirring stick of course available on Amazon. It does a fabulous job of stirring this stuff up. Second, be sure you put it in at least a cup of water or more and drink it right down stopping to re-stir with your stick about half way through. If for some reason it begins to thicken to the point where you are having difficulty, just add more water. Third, it swells faster in hot water than cold, so use cold, not iced, but cold water. I use filtered water from Brita pitcher or artesian well water. But if your tap water is good quality that is fine too. Third, some people say it tastes. I've not found this to affect me, but I do add a splash of elderberry syrup, tea, or a squeeze of lemon on occasion to make it have a taste. Fourth, I can add my 1/2 tsp to my noon smoothy and can't tell any thickening at all. I saw a review where someone was adding 2 tsp to their smoothy. Yikes! Don't do that. Stick with your little measuring scoop and you will do fine.Lastly, you can add this stuff to one cup of warm water and give it about 15 minutes and use it to thicken gravies and soups so you don't have to use flour if you are doing keto.If taking for diverticulosis, you need to take it first thing the minute your feet hit the floor before you eat anything for best results. I try to take again before lunch and on occasion will take in evening before dinner, but many times don't and it has been about a year since I had my last really bad flare up. The longest I have gone yet. It will also help you get over a flare up while you are doing the straight liquid part trying to get back to normal.

Rancid
I started adding this to my fiber shakes in the morning, and started noticing a weird rancid taste to them... like they were rotting or fermenting. I was worried that it was something in my kitchen, but after investigating, it's definitely this product. When I open the lid and smell it, it has the same rancid scent. It's subtle, but once it's mixed it gets way worse and upsets my stomach when I take it.

Great for some and not others
OK, I would definitely give it 5 stars if it wasnt for the difficulties of mixing the powder. I thought.."Hey this has a lot more than the pills and its the same price, might as well take the powder"......WELP I WAS WRONG! I put a scoop in a empty glass, filled it up with water and stirred as fast as possible before it could thicken up.....I then drank the cup as fast as I could, YET! it clumped up in the water and there was powder stuck to the bottom of the cup, now the scoop that comes inside is relatively small so you only put a scoop in.....I made another cup because I thought the amount at the bottom was kind of a lot.....the same thing happened. Anyways, I tried it a different way the next day. I scooped up the powder and poured it in my mouth and then drank water....now it worked better than the cup BUT! you have to literally drink alot of water and fast while swishing it around your mouth because if not it will thicken up and stick to the roof of your mouth, behind your teeth, or in your throat! Yea I had a couple fail trial runs but I have it down now. Mixing it in water feels like Im wasting product yet I choose to choke myself to death with pouring thickening powder into my mouth and praying it doesn't firm up in my throat. All in all Its a great product that does what it says and helps me with hunger cravings but I will get the pills for next time! **NOTE: IF YOU CHOOSE TO COOK WITH THIS RATHER THAN DRINK IT THEN ITS PERFECT!!
