Easy to stay consistent/ reflects Dr Fairburn’s food diary/ not focused on weightloss
Having a dedicated food diary that does NOT directly refer to a weight and weight loss is exactly what I needed. After reading Dr Fairburn’s Overcoming Binge eating I started a food diary but didn’t stick to it because I was using sheets of paper but wanted a book to keep it all in one place. Like having a « zone » for me to put down the thoughts. Clear boundary. Also it has a column for V/L and B which is of course very relevant for someone with disordered eating, not just for someone who wants to track to lose weight. I don’t believe binge eating recovery should be about prioritising weightloss (we have already tortured ourselves enough) so I appreciate that this book provides a compassionate space. The cover is a bit naff and indiscreet (I feel embarrassed for people to see the front cover if it’s in public as it says « binge eating journal » but try to keep it discreet) BUT I’ve stuck to it closely for the last few weeks and it has a section where I can do a food related diary entry about my mood which is really useful and it means I can identify my mood in the morning, throughout the day, and see how directly that reflects my eating. It is also teaching me to start being mindful by trying to write CLOSE TO THE TIME of eating, like you PAUSE your brain to write. It allows me to take the obsession and put it onto paper so I can move on with my day once I close the book. Sure it doesn’t always work, and I still have bad days, but I really believe it is helping. Thank you to the person that made this booklet accessible. Makes this hard journey that one step easier. Hope this helps, whoever reads this x
