Q: does it really crack that easily?

It's pretty strong but if you are molding slim areas like necks & wrists or attaching things, that might be a problem. It will fall if nit supported with something. I used tooth picks.

Q: Does this shrink or crack while drying?

I use this about once a month with elementary age children. It can create a masterpiece or a fragile mess...it depends on the amount of effort that goes into working the clay, creating a smooth surface. Kneeding and the care put into a piece will allow the clay to dry evenly and lessen any cracking.

Q: Can this clay be glazed or some other process to last longer? I see some of the reviews say it crumbles after a year.

I used mine to make Christmas ornaments also. No glaze just sticky paint glue (colorful glue) and I have an ornery in the back room. Still holding together. Perhaps you could google about the glaze or contact crayola. I know I did not use water. Just clay and a cookie cutter. Just beginners luck but never had a problem!

Q: How is this different from Model Magic?

Crayola Air Dry Clay is actually clay, somewhat like the water-softened clay you might have seen as a child, in your school's art department. Model Magic is entirely different. It belongs to a relatively new category of bright white artificial clays sometimes called "paper clay." I don't personally know if actual paper is involved in Model Magic, but the appearance is very similar.
