This splat mat is very flimsy and low quality. My baby slipped, my mom slipped, and I slipped. I know this isn’t slip proof - I regret buying something that only protected our floors (which it didn’t do well because it would move around under the high chair too much and the circumference of the covered area around the high chair is minimal). I didn’t even think of buying something that would protect us too, lol. The only maybe positive thing about this splat mat is that it’s machine washable, which isn’t even that helpful because unless you want food lying around on the mat all day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) before washing it at night (unless you bought three, which would be a huge waste of money), then what’s the point of it being machine washable? I guess you can get on your knees and pick up every piece of food after each meal/snack, then hand wash the mat, but who has time for that??? Even if you dusted it off in the sink, there will be sticky residue depending what your baby eats (of course, puffs are easiest). It may look pretty in this picture, but looks are deceiving, lol. I definitely did not take a picture of myself on floor after slipping on it with food everywhere. I do not recommend this product for anyone with kids (or adults) who run around the house, or busy parents who like to keep floors clean all the time throughout the day.

Approximately 90 seconds after spreading this thing out, my daughter pulled down the entire can of sliced pears from the table and onto the floor. The liquid just puddled on top instead of seeping into our student-apartment carpet! It does bunch up when you try and move the high chair on top of it, but if you just pick up the chair it’s not a problem to adjust.UPDATE: 3 starsSo I ended up using this matt for months, but quickly grew frustrated with it. It bunches up under chairs and moves around, and you have to pick it up, wash it down and hang it to dry almost every day. It's just messy. I started using a desk chair matt, like the clear ones with the pokey bottoms for chairs with wheels, and it works so much better! You can sweep and mop it directly, and you can find them for cheap on Amazon Warehouse. I'd recommend that.

I got this because my kiddo thinks it’s fun to pour drinks out onto the floor, and it usually happens so quickly (and quietly!) that there is nothing I can do to prevent it. So, to protect our floors, we have to have a floor mat. We have other Bumkins stuff that has been great, so I thought this should be good, too. It is made of a single layer of Bumkins material, and we were excited about its portability and washability. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been great to use.If liquid sits on top of the mat for more than one or two minutes, there gets to be a thin layer of moisture underneath it. It’s kind of weird, because you can wipe up the spill and at first it looks like the liquid is just sitting there on the surface of the mat, but after wiping, the mat still has a visible wet spot. It’s like a small portion of the liquid makes it through, but not all of it. I’m not sure when this would be acceptable, given that keeping the floor clean and dry is the purpose of the mat.Now we will have to find a mat that is completely waterproof.Pros:-Lightweight-Easy to fold and store-Cute pattern-Machine washableCons:-Extremely light, with no backing at all. Slides around or bunches up very easily.-Water-resistant, but not truly waterproof.

Years ago, I started using these mats when I was a restaurant reviewer. Because I took my kids along on these assignments at a very early age, they sometimes would drop food on the floor. By using these mats to cover the flooring, they prevented the children from making messes that waiters and waitresses had to clean up after we left. Now we are using the mats whenever my granddaughter is dining with us. They are bright and cheerful, easy to put down and easy to take up. When you get home, just shake out any food still in it and throw it in the washer. So light weight that it dries in no time! Believe me, waiters and waitresses will shower you with praise for your thoughtfulness.
