Letters on the keys are not lit... it is merely backlit.
I have an HP Omen desktop.I notice that my computer responds faster with peripherals from HP and not aftermarket gear.If you're gaming speed is important.I was expecting to be able to use the keyboard with my room lights off to do work. The keys are back lit, the letters are not transparent for the light to come through for you to see what keys you are hitting.No I didn't not take touch typing in high school.My Omen 45L Gaming Desktop tower pulses, the HP headset pulses and the HP mouse pulses.The HP keyboard has the rainbow pattern. It does not pulse.My only complaint is that the letters are not backlit to see in the dark.

A Cheap Affordable Keyboard
I bought two for a couple of computers at the house. One mouse shows no lights but works okay. The other is brightly lit, so unsure what is wrong with the first one. I also noticed that the letters seem to rub off the keys very easily. I have had it less than a month and one keyboard already has letters that are hard to read. Both work fine for now.

RGB lights are it's backlit feature. The letters and symbols aren't actually illuminated as traditionally with backlit keyboards.

I am happy with my purchase.
I am not a gamer, and my 13 yr old daughter is new to on line gaming so I am not sure about all of the technical aspects behind it. She received this set along with the HP Predator gaming laptop for Xmas so she is happy!! She did mention how much quicker the laptop and mouse work vs the regular laptop which she started playing her game on this fall. Mind you she only plays Roblox so this set serves her gaming purposes. Additionally, the mouse lights up and changes colors too.We’re happy!! No complaints!!

Awesome keyboard!
I needed a lighter keyboard for my HP all in one and this is perfect. Love the different colors even though I'm not a gamer.
