If you have a chimney, you NEED one of these. I used to have the inflatable style which worked really well for quite a few years. When it finally died on me, I found this version. I like that there’s nothing to break or deflate, and it’s easy to store in the winter.Anyway, I use vented gaslogs in the winter. Even with the flue shut, it’s not a “seal”. There’s still a lot of air exchange that goes on. Plugging up my chimney in the summer has lowered my electric bills, kept the fireplace area from being a “hot spot”, and keeps the chimney smell out when it gets drafty. When my inflatable version got leaky I could tell it had fallen from either the smell or the heat. This new one has lasted all summer with zero issues. I’ve only used it for one season so far but I can tell from the quality that I expect a decently long service life. And having the inflatable version for almost ten years, it’s a necessity.Be sure to measure your chimney so you get the right size. Go bigger and you can trim them with scissors if absolutely necessary. Mine fit perfectly without any trimming. You want a good tight fit and the wool will conform pretty easily, making an even better seal. I took a piece of red paracord and hung my reminder thing that way, which I think looks a little nicer than what came with it. Mainly because it’s red lol. But be sure to hang the reminder someplace either way.

I unfortunately bought the wrong size twice because I didn't measure. Finally got it correct on the 3rd try. I love it so much because it really makes such a huge difference. I had new double paned windows installed throughout the house, but because of the draft from my fireplace, it didn't help conserve heat. I had a hard time staying in my living room during the winters because it was so cold. This flue blocker has helped to stabilize the heat in my house and I could tell the difference immediately upon installation. My heater doesn't kick on as much anymore because of this product. I am so thankful for your company for helping conserve on my energy bill.

Works good but make sure you confirm your size of the flue to get correct size. It’s a little confusing when looking up into your fireplace and where and how it will fit. The flueblocker comes a little larger in size which is great. My flue was damaged a little so I don’t get complete draft protection. Not sure if I should have purchased the rectangle one instead. But glad I got something. Still worth it.

Closes the 13 x 13 chimney flue and prevents up and down drafts as well as the smoky smell. Needs to be sold with a much longer attachment, as it is kind of ridiculous to believe the short attachment that comes with it is long enough to reach up through the throat of the chimney.

So this seems to work OK but I had the following issues to get it to work and you should be aware. My chimney has a smoke chamber of a few feet, so I needed to buy MANY of the 6" extensions to get up to the flue. It seemed odd to me that there are not 1' and 2' extensions.The other, much bigger issue is that my damper opening was angled such that I could not get the flue blocker in. The plastic reinforcement stiffener combined with the handle made it impossible for me to find an angle where I could get through the damper. So I ended up using a dremel to cut the reinforcement on both sides so it could bend through the damper.Finally, because I had to use so many extensions to get to the flue, and perhaps because the stiffener needed to be cut, I needed to put a support in the fireplace so the extended handle didn't slide down. Basically, it held, but not really well with all the extensions on it.In terms of blocking the draft: yes, it seems to be doing that. But it was a LOT more fussing that suggested to get it to work.So just be aware of this if your fireplace has a long smokestack and a smallish damper opening.Cheers.
