Perfect replacement

I bought this as a replacement for our new house. The existing one was programmable but did not light up and I found that just wasn't working as we headed into fall and much colder nights. I need a flashlight to use it. So I did a search for one that would light up when I used it. I ordered this on a Wednesday and it arrived the following Tuesday. It was quite easy to install as the base plate screws matched the old one. It comes with 2 double A batteries but it can also power itself from some HVAC systems. Mine is one those so batteries were not needed other than as backup in a power outage. The wires matched the old setup so the whole install took about 20 minutes. I suggest you tie a long weighted string to the loose wires if the wall hole is bigger than the wire. If the wires falls back into that hole, it is a long day. So, once installed, I tested Heat and then AC. Both worked and I programmed my preferences. The light will stay on while you are using it and go off when not. I like that. It is easy to set and change settings. There are only a couple of things I did not like and they are really minor. When you press a button to activate the light, that button does whatever it is programmed to do rather than just wake the light. So I use the up down arrows only to get started. The only other negative was it did not self correct for the recent time change for winter. The time is quite easy to set though as it was only one step down on the down arrow to correct it from the time set menu. Overall, I would recommend it as a trusted name, an easy unit to install and use, a good lighted unit and a fairly affordable price.

I've installed these 'stats at 3 homes I've lived in since 2005. 2 for heat-only systems (Gas Hot Air), and 1 for a Gas Heat/A/C combo system. No problems to date with any of them.Love the LCD display. Wanted a 'stat I could read and adjust without glasses. This one hits the mark, and then some. Extra large digits and ample backlighting allow me to read/set the unit in the dark while half-asleep. Simple, intuitive controls take no time at all to master. Installation is a snap when used with typical modern heating systems. Keep the manual handy, and you'll have no problem installing or programming.In operation, it works as advertised. Temperature stays within plus or minus 1 degree of setpoint. All 3 units I've installed had this accuracy. On the Heat/AC system, I found the automatic heat/cool function invaluable - especially during those transition periods like Fall and Spring. The thermostat automatically switches between heat and A/C to maintain constant temperature and humidity. Great feature.Battery life is awfully long, and the batteries are easily swapped without yanking the unit. Short-term memory keeps your settings intact while changing batteries. It seems like Honeywell thought of everything when they designed this piece, and reliability has been great. For the typical homeowner, this is hard to beat for the price. For those of us who are visually challenged, it's a godsend.

I'm impressed with this thermostat. First, let's talk price. Amazon's price is the equivalant of a much lower end Honeywell unit being sold at Home Depot and Ace Hardware. This high end Pro series line is only supposed to be sold to contractors, but Amazon makes it available to homeowners. Bravo! This unit is impressive right out of the box. Explanations of how to disconnect the main unit from the back plate are imprinted in the plastic on the back of the mounting plate. The battery compartment is removable without dismounting the body of the themostat. There is a small instruction card that tells you how to do the most common thermostat functions which folds and slips into a designed slot in the back of the unit. This kind of attention to detail and engineering is why Honeywell is so well thought of in this field.It took me about 10 minutes to wire the unit. Mine was a simple set up (heat only), but the instructions were clear enought that I think I could have wired AC and/or a Fan as well. Programming is easy. You can program for Monday - Friday with Sat and Sun seperate or treat the weekend as 1 program. Best of all, the temperature sensor is dead on. My last thermostat was a LUX and it always read 66 degrees. If it read 65, you could pratically see your breath (a slight exageration, but you get the point) if it said 67, it was a sauna in the house (no exageration). I had a simple question for Honeywell regarding whether or not to leave the jumper in between the R and RC terminal. Customer service was polite, quick (5 min on hold) and they knew what they were talking about. I highly recommend this product.
