Perfect for killing bacteria and mold inside a chilled water air conditioning box!
I easily and quickly mounted this flood light fixture inside the wet area of my chilled water air conditioner box-- and worked perfect with this screw-in UV Light!I mounted 2 UV Lights in my chilled water AC air where it can get quite wet. ...I cut the cord ends off too so I can connect the flood light fixture to power source. ...And I added a round on-off switch to my thermostat pannel... or you can wire in a timmer if you don't want to manually control the UV Light. You will need to buy an all-plastic flood-light fixture (on Amazon) that will not rust -- and has a good rubber seal to keep moisture out. (See picture.)I chose this type of uv-light becuase I wanted a screw-in bulb instead of some other power-pin-connection. And I like that it has a hight wattage bulb and is not very long.I also like these screw-in UV Light Bulbs are not very expensive to replace, since they all last about 1-2 years depending on how many hours per day you run the light.Note: When you first use this light you will smell an odor like "burning hair." This is normal and will go away in a few days. This odor is the smell from dead bacteria being released so for the first couple days I recommend you run your AC (fan only) with the windows open. And then the burn smell will go away.As mentioned above, I recommend you have an on-off switch, because I don't think you have to run your UV-light 24/7 to be effective. (TBD)And you want to turn off the UV LIght anytime you need to work on the AC. ...Plus, you never want to look at the the uv light or it will hurt your eyes!!!

Sterilizing UV
The design concept of this lamp is basically that of a compact fluorescent, but with less mercury, Vycor glass instead of quartz, and no phosphor coating to change the UV radiation to visible light. This is a time-tested design, and it works well. The Vycor absorbs the 185 nm radiation which would produce toxic ozone from the oxygen in the air, so it is not necessary to leave the room where the lamp is running. (I cannot measure any ozone from this lamp, but if the lamp is run for hours in a confined space, there will be a slight odor of ozone built up. I believe this is below the threshold of ozone toxicity.) The output is mainly at 253.7 nm which is quite lethal to viruses and most bacteria, but will damage the human cornea and retina. Therefore, the user must protect himself and anyone in the area from looking at the purplish glow. These lamps will eventually collect enough tungsten sputtered onto the walls from the filament to block the UVC emitted by the lamp. Working life is estimated to be one year . If the mechanical seal between the Vycor and the tungsten leaks air into the lamp, the lamp will be extinguished, which is easily detected by the user. They run a little bit warm, but not hot to the touch. I have received some units with leaky envelopes which would not light, even on day one.

Disinfects well but has a strong ozone odor
We used this in my husband's bathroom, and it definitely got rid of any odors of mildew and otherwise. But it left a very strong ozone smell. Maybe that's because as the description says it burns off germs and leaves some ozone residue. We will see if the next time we use it smells as strong. Will update review then.

last for about 6 months to a year. good bulb!
I was an HVAC tech for many years, and have researched a lot of these. In order for it to be hospital quality, it has to be UV-C. I can't measure it. I just have to trust that this is correct. I don't believe any of the L.E.D. ones are real. There are a lot of fakes out there. This is way cheaper than the 700 dollar one that my company sells. I like that you can get this with a magnetic base (another model, this is just the replacement bulb.) I just put it in my return duct. Be careful that you don't put this where the light can reach your filter! It will make the filter media stiff, and your blower will suck it into itself...even if it was clean. I have this mounted up in the duct before it turns down to my filter. All you have to do is cut a hole a little bigger than this, put the bulb in the magnet mount, reach into your duct, and stick it to any side. Then close up the hole with preferably a larger piece of sheet metal. The first one I got lasted almost a year. The second one was this replacement (exact same bulb) and it lasted 9 months. It is plugged in 24/7.

Not An Ozone Free Product!
False advertising. The bulb is listed Germicidal UV Sanitizer Light Bulb 25 W 254nm Ozone Free. I got it because I wanted an ozone free bulb. But down in the fine print it says it gives off SOME ozone. It produces enough ozone to cause throat and eye irritation in less than 15 minutes. That's more than some. I work in an adjacent room and it causes problems. This is NOT an ozone free product and it should not be listed as such. That's $19 down the drain for me....

Cheap easy hospital grade sanitation!
When you need to sanitize, nothing works better than a cheap spray bottle full of alcohol or hydrogen peroxide sprayed on the surface or in the air. It does not damage most surfaces and is extraordinary effective, however using a medical grade UV light For 15 minutes on a surface or in a room helps insures that about any bacteria, viruses, and unpleasant smells are Eradicated as well. We are talking about on surfaces. This is not a substitution for washing Items. Most hospital wards have a few infectious disease rooms. They cart in a super expensive machine that does exactly what I have explained. What do you think they charge the insurance company for that little sanitizing remedy? I had mold growing on the ceiling of my brand new house where I had a water leak. I spent a month and too much money on products that did not kill this mold. Covering it up does not help. UV light, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide make a quick cheap end to mold! It is dangerous to be in the room with this light, So go out of the room and close the door for 10 or 15 minutes. These lights are used to sanitize spaces in hospitals with good reason! Also buy a cheap bulb fixture with a long cord so you can hang this and manipulated where you need it !!
