CAT S42 Rugged Smartphone – North America Variant – 2 Year Warranty Service in U.S. and Canada. (Optimized for North America Carriers- Will not Work on Verizon)

I've been very pleased w/my s42, approaching 1.5years of ownership. Just to clear up some currently out-of-date info :: My s42 was auto-upgraded to Android v12 several months back (so it is not limited to the stated 'v10'). My s42 works fine w/a 512GB XC SD card (not the max of 256GB advertised my mfg, THOUGH I only tested it in the 'Separate Storage' config, not the alternative of 'Shared Memory' ...). And one day plan to try it w/my 1TB XC SD card, too, but 512GB addresses my needs (for FLAC audio and pic files).I have also used it on both AT&T and T-Mobile 4GLTE networks (and, yes, in the fall of `21 AT&T did have an issue w/the s42, where the s42's mfg had not yet gotten it thru AT&T's approval process, but that was resolved w/AT&T in early `22). And since 5G is only viable in cites of significant size, 4G LTE will be with us a long time (& personally I have zero desire to watch any HD video content on the tiny screen of any kind of phone).I've also found the s42 acts well as a home WiFi hotspot, going thru multiple walls to deliver decent signal strength. And for USB tethering you can cofig the battery charging to be limited to 30% min -to- 70% max, to avoid damaging the battery via constant 100% charging while tethered via USB. Otherwise, I appreciate the s42's robust construction, Gorilla Glass screen, sealed ports, dedicated 1/8" stereo audio output jack, long-lasting battery and the solid reliability this phone has provided me to-date.CORRECTION : 512GB XC SD card works fine for playing audio w/Pulsar app, and you see the album artwork fine (via Pulsar) that also resides on the same SD card. However if you download a file from the internet w/the SD as destination, it appears when viewed via s42 that the you've downloaded a 0-Byte file (despite the length of download time), but the correct file is actually on the SD card. But rather than deal w/that I went back to the S42's suggested max 256GB XC SD card w/o issue.

This phone is an amazing idea but not worth the money. Very minimal processing power. Very laggy. The screen lost some functionality one year in. The touch screen was activating in different areas of the screen randomly making the device unusable. And the rubber covering on the back of the started peeling off 1 year into the purchase. I tried using different kinds of glue, but NOTHING sticks to the rubber surface. i had to resort to sticking it with blue tack!The phone is rugged and feels sturdy. But considering it costs 3 times as much as an entry smartphone. You could buy 3 phones for the price of one.Overall not a purchase i can reccomend

it works really good i dropped it over 2 billion times it survived fire, water even a girl on my bus poked it with a nife and siccors really hard multiple times and it got ran over by a school bus, a golf cart, a 200 pound person threw it on the floor and stepped on it, and my dog kept finding ways to bite it and scratched it. it survived for 3 years but then the sound buttons stopped working then my power button stopped working i know it turns on it charges still i still get notifications but it dosent turn on anymore

CAT PHONES: I'VE HAD THREE...AND NOW CAN LIVE WITH TWO.I have the CAT S22 flip, its GREAT, super compact, light weight and durable......BUTthe tiny touch screen can get fatiguing. BUT the flip'ness & SIZE is great❗I had for a very short time the CAT S62, it was a heavy behemoth! Just couldn't carry that cinder block around. And the texting had a weird issue.i'M HAPPY'ish with the CAT S42. Simple, rugged ''normal'' size smartphone. not huge, or too heavy. Great for a outdoors person thats not some PHONE HEAD.no fancy BS. The less pocket computer it is the better. It updated and now it's a android 12, I guess.B-U-T......!!!!This CAT S42 is kinda touchy. THING ARE SLOW, and make one simple adjustment / MISTAKE and the microphone on Gboard used for texting disappears, so no speak to text.A few other items can be a bit goofy.ANDROIDS FAULT? probably. All these "flat" phones are touchy, I think.its a humble, simple so called a smartphone. AND OVER ALL STILL PREFER THE SMALL, AND FLIP FEATURE OF MY CAT S22 FLIP MORE. The form factor is the appeal over a CAT S42, still.Because I'm not glued to my phone like 99% of the sheep out there!If you don't mind the screen hanging out there ''mooning the world'', getting all nasty, at work, I'd go for this CAT S42. BECAUSE YOU CARRY ON YOUR BELT LIKE A REAL MAN.If you're looking for compact, and a trimmed down version, and have good eyes, go with a CAT s22 Flip.at $80 versus $250, it's very worth it, as a back up spare FOR ME, shtf type phone, that's what I'LL use it for mostly.OR I'll bounce back and forth, taking my SIM & SD card out when I feel the need.THE PRICES for both, cannot be beat. FYI: saw a guy on YT buy a "smartphone" on TEMU for $80, thinking it was some kind of mega-deal. IT WASN'T!He found out it couldn't be used in N. America.....all the while, he could have got a CAT S22 FLIP, OR CAT S42, FOR THE SAME OR """""LESS"""""" $$.🤑🤑And kept TEMU CHINA junk, out of our Landfills!
