The Union Jack Les Paul guitar I received is very, very good
The media could not be loaded. I just wanted a nice looking stage guitar with a Union Jack design on the front and found this on Amazon. I've never purchased a guitar off Amazon before and will likely never do so again... except for maybe the Leo Jaymz US flag SG-style electric. That's because this Les Paul style guitar is really quite good. I own mostly Gibson/Epiphone and Fender/Squier electric guitars, but this Leo Jaymz LP guitar is no slacker. I know there are several guitar manufacturers that make good LP, Strat, and Tele style guitars, but I've never heard of Leo Jaymz.Whoever Leo Jaymz is, this guitar is a solid player and the body art is excellent. The Union Jack design is not a sticker/skin and looks very good. The guitar is a bit lighter than either my Gibson or Epiphone LP Standard 60s, but it also doesn't feel or play like a cheap guitar. I'm not a guitar snob who needs to be critical of every part of a guitar, but I know a good guitar when I play it. This is a good guitar. The nut, bridge, the saddle, the volume and tone knobs, the fretboard, and the tuners were all in order. No fret buzz (i.e., no high frets needing to be filed down), the fretboard was straight, and the nut slots seated the strings just right. The action (string height) was just right, and I only needed to adjust the intonation of the 4th, 5th, and 6th strings a bit. I oiled the fretboard and will polish all 22 frets later when I change the strings, which are very playable out of the box.The fret ends are rough (expected; update: I have since filed down the fret ends and the guitar plays much, much smoother) and the string slots on the metal bridge saddles needed to be smoothed out (unexpected; I sacrificed a nylon pick to use as a "file" to smooth the string slots). Those were the quality issues I had, but the overall quality of the guitar still exceeded my expectations. The humbuckers sound good through my Vox AC30, so all of the electronics are fine. The guitar will definitely work on stage. I haven't opened up the panel to examine the pots yet, and probably won't unless one of the humbuckers stops working well.If you have the tools and know how to set up a guitar yourself, this guitar is truly a bargain considering I paid just under $200 for it. If you don't have the tools or know-how to do a guitar setup, my advice is to first have in mind (before you buy this guitar) a friend or someone else willing to help you do the setup.I would consider you very fortunate if, like me, you bought and received one in excellent condition.Update: I uploaded a video clip - iPhone 16 mic, VOX AC30 amp head, VOX 2x12 cabinet, Wampler compressor/boost pedal, BOSS DM-2w Delay pedal, BOSS RV-6 Reverb pedal, both humbuckers (middle switch position).

Excellent guitars that will need some TLC. Amazing guitar and sound!
I'm reading some of the reviews and glad I didn't listen to some one offs. This is a solid guitar at this price range! I had an Epiphone 'similiar' model which didn't compare. Sorry never a Gibson owner because of the price! I'm not knocking Gibson or Les Paul but you charge way too much for your guitars!I'll start with the CONS: First, you have to know how to setup your guitar. If not have a local tech do. Should be less than $100 or learn yourself. Slight fret buzz but not bad (some metal shavings came off from the dremel polishing), lowered the action, the strings were fine (.10s I think) if I could salvage them. But cut em. Polish the frets, oil the fretboard, check your truss rod (mine didn't need adjusting)!! Check your intonation in case. This all goes for a $3000 guitar too ya know!! USA driven, China manufactured, to check for QA.PROs: This has become my new favorite guitar! It's beautiful! The hardware, body is solid, pickups, pots, detail, all good. Heavy but what a quality tone. Excellent! If you have an issue out of the box I expect good things from Leo support, didnt need yet. Please dont dissapoint Leo service!Play through some 'decent gear' and it sounds bright, vivid, loud, beautiful.Overall: Impressed does not explain my first reaction. I bought the Tempest model because I am just overall curious about Leo design, quality, and beauty at this price point! I expect this guitar to remain one of my favs!Update Mar31st - Needed to order a new bridge since E, B were rocking and loose. Asked LJ for support. They offered $20 to replace the bridge. Ok so I did. Next purchase I may send back to Amazon if it has issues. Leo Jaymz support is all email. Support lacks a decent response and time. A live person would be nice too!Add 4-28 Also bought the US Flag guitar. Needed the nut raised slightly. Put some thin double adhesive under it, glued it back in. It's a cheap nut unfortunately but works. Got the annoying mysterious buzz out and action lowered more too. Now it rocks! Still the bridge is cheap and will replace. These things setup right are hard to beat for this price. Sounds amazing!

Decent cheap guitar, but .... (updated)
I've been playing guitar for many years and ordered this because at the price it could at least be wall art. Overall it seems a decent budget guitar but mine first came with some serious issues. On unboxing, the strings were completely slack and there was no tension in the truss rod at all, but the neck still had too much relief. After tightening up the truss rod and tuning it up, I discovered a really bad low 21st fret affecting the G, B and high E string. On the last two, the 20th and 21st frets play the same note, and from the 19th to 20th fret was a whole step, not a half step! That low fret was a fatal defect because it would require replacement, not just filing and crowning like a high one, so I sent that guitar back. I considered a refund but decided to give it one more try and that came within a day. Guitar #2, interestingly enough, had some tension in the truss rod and strings. The truss rod only needed a tiny tweak, then lowering the bridge a hair, and there are no dead notes. Hurray, a playable guitar! The tuners do what they're supposed to do, as do the electronics. The pickups have their own tone, certainly not high gain, which suits me. I'm not a pickup swapper; between pedals and amps, there are lots of ways to dial in tone. A minor quibble is the fret ends could be rounded a bit smoother but I've felt worse on much more expensive guitars. At some point this might be a candidate for a Plek job but it's playable as is. So bottom line, once the defective guitar was replaced, this is a decent bit of gear at a comfortable price. The flag does look cool and really seems to fit this LP body style well. If nothing else, I'll be bringing it out on holidays like the 4th of July.
