We have 3 dachshunds who are very low to the ground. I read review after review trying to find the right patio door insert to for our Florida home. This insert was super easy to install but there are a few caveats.1. This insert does not lock and is not compatible with your current locking mechanism. (They call this out but I just want to reiterate that).2. Brushed aluminum finish looks great and easy to paint, glass is of good quality with slight tint and matches the tint on our existing sliders.3. Magnet is very strong on the dog door. You may need to remove the bottom magnet at first until your dogs get used to it.4. Customer service - they answer their phone and are happy to help you.Overall - this unit cost more, but the quality justifies it. If you are looking for a short term solution, this is probably a bit overpriced. but if you are looking for something you could use for years to come...this is the one.

Overall, the door works very well. We have had several dog doors in this location over the years and bought this one because it was supposed to be more resistant to cold air infiltration. The previous doors we had tended to blow open in bad weather and then not seal shut again, which led to to massive cold air infiltration, and unhappy houseplants. This door works much better. It seals shut and stays put in the cold winter wind. There is also no collection of dog hair (huskies, in our case) on the magnetic strips, so the magnets lock it down solidly. We had to clean the magnetic strips on other doors about once a month, but this door does not have that issue.We had our door installed for three weeks and were happy with it, until one of the corners of the top hinge came loose and the whole door sagged down on one side and was unusable. We contacted customer support which was very pleasant and personable, and were told a new door flap and hardware would be sent. Three weeks later (with the door closed off with the plastic panel and not available for use), the replacement door flap had not arrived. Another call to customer service -still pleasant and helpful- led to another promise of a new door flap and hardware. The new parts eventually arrived, and the we were able to replace the flap with a new one (must be handy with tools to do that). The new flap has seen several weeks of service and works well. We have had very cold windy weather and the flap stays shut. If it did not, it would not be usable in our location.So, a good door, overall. The seal around the edges of the whole panel works well, but the glass portion is nowhere near as cold-resistant as our sliding glass door glass, which does not frost up in the cold (10f and below) like the dog door glass panel does. I don't think there is any better dog door panel out there, however, so that's just how it is.One of our dogs took all of three seconds to figure out the thermo dog door, and the other, smaller one, took a couple of days, but both use it all the time, now, with no problems. We use it to give our dogs access to the house and outside while we are not at home, and block it off at night with the lock-panel, which works great to keep unwelcome wildlife out.Our dogs are in the 35-45lb range and have no problem with this door. A small dog would have to hit it pretty hard to get through, which would depend on the dog's personality. We have the large size and presumably the smaller sizes would be lighter and easier for a small dog to use. Our advice is to not go any bigger than you need to, because the door flap is much heavier than a simple flexible plastic panel, and a large panel is heavier than a small panel.If not for the mechanical failure and slow replacement, I would have only positive things to say about this dog door, because we like it just fine. It is expensive, but it is also a much better door than cheaper alternatives.

Looks great, installs easy, heavy duty and muched improved over the previous doggy door that I had in our patio. Even on windy days you don't feel a breeze coming through the flap. In the mornings, when it's cold outside the pet door doesn't feel any colder than our patio door next to it.

Very easy install and match existing doors perfect.

We got the large one for the slidder. The rod that holds the flap is only 12 inches and the door is 14 inches wide.. there for the rod falls out and it's hard as hell to get it back where it belongs . We had to order 14 inch rods.. hopefully that works.. It would hurt them to put a 14 inch rod in there instead of a 12 ,that's kind of cheaping out

Pro's: Well insulated and sturdy door.Con's: The inside top of the door will pop out of the track with any pressure on the inside of it. A sheet screw to hold it in the track would help. The door design causes it to be noisier than regular flap doors but, the design keeps cold breezes out.The last con is the inability to easily lock it. We purchased a "plastic" lock that goes at the bottom of the door. Inconvenient due to placement and questionable as to how it would hold up overtime. A correct size dowel/rod placed in track to prevent door opening would work just as well.

Easy to install, looks good. May not be ok in v. cold winters

Very sturdy, flap is very thick and has seals on all four sides. The door adjusts up or down: I have a boxer, Newfoundland, and a great dane that all use the same door. The spring loaded top adjusts very easily and is strong and cannot be lifted out. Package included door and door sealing padding if needed. I would recommend this product for it's strength and versatility of sizing for different types of dogs.
