Platinum Connector professional HD form-factor RJ45 crimp tools: Pass-Through crimper makes UTP/FTP Cable connector assembly much easier and rock solid (Blue)

I had purchased what was thought was a genuine Platinum brand pass-through crimper 5 years ago, but it was a deceptive fake and failed. This is the real deal. Much better quality, and while not cheap, what cost do you have when one fails on a client site for a critical connection? That's what happened to me. Upon research of the old unit I had found out it was deceptively labeled and packaged to look like a genuine Platinum brand crimper.I am a bit of a brand snob for good reason. Brand names generally have earned their reputations. This crimper is significantly better made than the counterfeit one I purchased (Thanks Amazon for allowing so much of this to happen unaddressed). As always I keep several crimpers in my toolkit but this one is the go to unit. It's fast and easy to precisely create the occasional RJ45 or RJ12 connector you need or to do simple repairs. It is not intended for heavy duty bulk use (not many do that these days but it needs being said). If you plan on doing hundreds of crimps per day you should explore a heavier unit (also examine your career choices LOL)Nuff said, this is a good unit and well worth the money. Get the cheaper one and it will fail or not do a good job. For a serious tech, this is the unit. Everything else is just a waste of time and money.

This crimper is so much easier than all the other standard crimpers I've used. The jacket cutter is a big help, and using pass-through jacks does such a better job. I know all the wires have solid connections inside the jack, and the jacket inserts further before crimping making a more solid and cleaner cable. I went through my house and redid 8 jacks as soon as it arrived.

Being able to work with longer length wires and pass straight through the connector is huge. It makes wire alignment simpler and faster. By the fourth crimp, I had a good rhythm. First one, not so much, but the learning curve was fast.

I've used plug machines before but I like this one better as I could get the jacket all the way in and clamp it down in one step and I don't have to measure the wires exactly because the wires go through and out the other end of the plug and the machine cuts the wire as you clamp the conductors. I would have gave it 5 stars but some of the plugs provided allowed the wires to move out of their place due to loose tolerances of the plastic wire slots. Rather than playing with those plugs I just threw them out. It doesn't come with instructions. All in all I do like this plug maker and would gladly buy another.

I've learned my lessons from buying cheap tools so I opted to get Platinum. Unfortunately I got a dud. I only use Klein brand RJ45 but the cutter will not get the ends clean. It kind of smashes the ends as it cuts them. So the RJ45 won't go in the port and the couple I have managed to push in cause a short. I've had another pair for over 6 years and had no issues. These lasted me less than 200 crimps.

Thought this would aid in our cabling projects. Failed to cut wires close enough to allow for a good connection either in computer or in a switch. We still are going to give it another try to see if it was just because of it being new.
