Solid retelling of the story up through Ep. 8
For anyone who wanted a slightly more serious retelling of RWBY, this is exactly what you're looking for. It keeps most of the plot beats but cuts some of the slapstick and has a much bigger focus on the main 4 girls.I have a few minor gripes as the timelines are not totally clear with what is a flashback and what is present day (and it jumps between them a lot), and the black-and-white color scheme combined with the art style makes it hard to tell whats going on in some of the larger splash panels, but those are both minor. All in all its a good read, and I think I'd actually recommend it over the actual series for new fans. 5/5, will be getting the next one for sure.

An absolute must buy for RWBY fans!!!
This is the official RWBY Manga! It is the same story we see told in the web series originally written by Monty Oum at Rooster Teeth, but drawn in a japanese maga art style by Bunta Kinami. It looks absolutely stunning! Like imagine those crazy fights sceens, but with all the glory of an action anime art style. This being Kinami's first professional manga is very impressive due to the awesome art style and I look forward to reading more of these! And absolute must for RWBY fans :D

Beautiful retelling of the show!
Great retelling of the first few episodes of RWBY. Volume one covers about the first 7-8 episodes up to the end of the initiation when Team RWBY is officially formed. If you thought the show was a little rough in season one, this manga does a good job polishing it. Beautiful art style too. I look forward to the next volume!

The Story similar to the Series
The manga was awesome it was better in the series I've seen in Roosterteeth. I live how it has more action.

Just Like Show!
Thank you to VIZ Media, NetGalley, and Bunta Kinami, as well as Rooster Teeth, for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. There are other RWBY manga volumes out there, though most are short anthologies featuring stories focused on a main character for each volume, or shorts done by various artists. But where's the main story? Here it is, volume one of the RWBY series as a manga! It's the same plot as the television series, done as drawings rather than animation. And this art is surely no disappointment. The art is gorgeous and has an appealing aesthetic different than watching the animation. When I first watched the show, it was hard to get past the animation style, but the art in this manga really takes this story away. This volume is a nice introduction to the main characters, setting, and aspects of the world such as Grim and the importance of a Hunter's job in this world.
