These Alving cutting edges are, in a word, perfect. They leave no residue on the paper (or whatever you're cutting), they only slip if you're putting too much pressure on your knife hand (don't do that), they're heavy, and they never bend out of shape. Because they're stainless steel you won't slowly and inevitably shave down the edges over time like you would with aluminum. I think I've got two or three of the 30"s, one of the 24"s, and will be getting a 12" one as soon as I can think of a project to justify the purchase.

Strong, durable rulers, and they stay down when cutting items. Customer service was also excellent. Thank you!

This is what I have been looking for. I lost many tools in hurricane Katrina several years ago. Plus: I seem to have the annoying habit of giving my stuff away to my family and friends.So I needed to replace my straight edge and I have done so expertly with this necessary tool of the trade. Any draughtsman should own one if he is interested in making straight lines.

Works ok. Not the best finish and probably dosen't match tolerance of more well known brands but completely adequate for average needs(lay out, guitar necks, etc) and at half the price!

Huge disappointment from an otherwise reputable heritage brand.

Alvin products are high quality, and this straight edge is no exception. It is really nice, and a good addition to our tools for crafting and woodworking. My husband used one for years in his career of construction and drafting. Recommend.

This is a heavy piece of steel that provides an excellent straight edge for cutting or drawing. It's 24 inches in length, but you can get the size you need, 12 or 36 inches also available. This edge from Alvin is high quality and will outlast most things in your house. The edge has a bevel so you in case you need a break from the page, maybe from using inks or to give a true edge when cutting. I find that the edge is truly straight and will provide accurate and quality cuts. It's not cheap, but as I said, it will last a long time for your needs.

Arrived packaged poorly in a thin white plastic bag. The straight edges were sticking out. The 24" is not flat. It turns upwards slightly at each edge. This is a heavy steel straight edge- unacceptable. The (2) 48" are badly scratched, mostly on the bottom surface. I would not put these on top of any art work that needed trimming- it would scratch the surface. this is steel- how did they make such a poorly constructed product? Edges are very sharp. Not good. I have been in the photo and graphic design biz for 35 years- I know what I am talking about. I'm not sure if this is even an ALVIN product. Thank you.
