Yes this is measured from the widest possible points. Similar to how you measure any item. When I am traveling I often need to know the size of my bags and that is what this tells you. I've never seen a pet carrier list its internal dimensions instead of external but that is what people are focusing on on this carrier instead of the carrier itself.Yes it has a lip design. This allows for super easy construction and deconstruction/storage if needed. The front gate is easy to operate and the entire thing assembles easily within a couple of minutes unless you are slow on twisting screws. The top gate comes installed. I have 2 small rabbits and this carrier is superb for them. The top gate makes a huge difference for getting the little things out of the carrier. The material is very solid plastic and the screws come with solid plastic wingnuts to screw into place. The end result has not sharp edges or snagging corners while the gates are closed. Both the gates can be opened with one hand. Though you will want to make sure that the top gate is securely closed and both pegs have snapped back into place before picking it up as the handle is in the middle of the top gate. This has not been an issue for me, but the only concern that I could see occurring with this carrier, other than people not understanding how to measure things properly.This is decidedly not for medium sized or large animals. However as a pet owner you should be expecting to pay for proper care of your pet and not trying to find the smallest box to cram them into. So if you are looking for the cheapest and smallest versions of things possible for your pet, it may be time to think about whether you are punishing your pet by keeping it and should find it a better home.

I bought this carrier to use when I take my small five pound sixteen year old cat to the veterinarian. This crate fits this cat, but barely. I have another cat which weighs about nine pounds. This kennel is too small for that nine pound cat. If your pet exceeds six pounds, this cage will most likely be too small. The cage is very well made and easy to clean. An animal is secure when inside it, for the carrier is certainly not going to fall apart. I literally had another carrier fall apart in the veterinarian's office. Had it fallen apart outside the animal clinic, I would have lost the animal. Therefore, I truly appreciate having a very sturdy, secure cage which will protect my pet and prevent the pet from being lost by falling apart at the worst possible time and in the worst possible place. I thought about returning this kennel because it is so very small. But I finally decided to keep it due to its solid construction. It works okay for my very small cat.

I was looking for a carrier to take my rats to the vet and wanted something small, chew/escape-proof, and secluded. This seemed like the best option and I'm glad I got it. The bars are small enough so that rats aren't able to get through them (except for maybe tiny babies), and unlike soft carriers I don't have to worry about them digging and chewing their way out. There are plenty of holes for ventilation around the carrier but they're small enough to still give them privacy so they don't get scared, and it is roomy enough even for multiple rats on a trip but I don't feel like it's too big either. This seems much sturdier than some of the other rat-sized carriers I could find, and it's a good price. The top door is a very useful feature. With a blanket on the bottom they are very comfortable in this carrier.The only complaint I have (that others have mentioned) is that the holes for the front door are the same on both sides so that there is a part sticking out where you close the door which makes it a bit difficult to open and close. It's not a big problem but it could be an annoyance for the animal if you have to force it shut. I usually use the top door though.This is a great carrier for rats and I'm sure it would be great for other small pets as well.

The information in Amazon states it holds up to a 15 lb. pet. The carrier information included states it holds up to 10 lb. pet. My cat is 11 lbs. and it is a snug fit for him. He does not have room to stand up and turn around.Quality: Top and bottom are attached with metal screws and sturdy plastic knobs. Very easy to attach. No tools required. Both the top and side door latch are very secure and easy to use.Purchased this because, I needed a smaller carrier so I could easily get my cat out and so he could not escape. In my appropriately sized larger carrier, he practically plastered his body to the other end so; the VET and I are forced to grab him and drag him out. He also could escape from the previous carrier. Obviously, he hates the VET visits and car rides. He loves the smaller carrier and small spaces make him feel safe. He just does not want it going anywhere.

I just got this carrier today for you rabbits to carrier them from outside to inside and it works great. The babies even like it and it is very easier to scoot them out from the top. When i was putting it together my cat even went in there to check it out without feeling scared. I also wanted to point out the top door does not call down when open it stays up nice and this product does not look or feel cheap. It is worth the money. may buy one more for my cat and my baby bunnies. I do have to say it is small so a bigger cat or dog can not fit. It is just big enough for my tiny cat and my adult rabbit but it will not fit my adult rabbit and her babies.

Measurements do not match photo/description. Way smaller than advertised. Super sad, I liked the pink color :( I measured it before I bought and this still happened
