RESCUE! WHY Trap Attractant Refill
I was getting wasps near my hummingbird feeder. They were detering the birds from going to the feeder. I tried refilling the trap with the hummingbird juice, no go due to attractant not being strong enough. Then I tried Mountain Dew Code Red; it wasn't working as an attractant either. I guess the wasps can smell the toxins in the Code Red. So I decided to purchase the refill attracted for my WHY TRAP. Trap is sold separately. The refill doesn't come with a replacement sponge, so as a replacement I either used a cotton swab/pad or piece of thick fleece cut to size to fit inside. The top of the WHY TRAP that was filled with fluid did not catch a single thing. On the other hand, the bottom of the WHY TRAP caught 8 yellow jackets. My main goal was to catch the BIG BAD WASP, but it seems the dead yellow jackets deterred the giant nasty wasp away anyway. The refill also costed a little more than I wanted to pay for it because the attractant only works for 2 weeks. Because only half of the refill kind-of worked, because it did NOT contain a replacement sponge and because it was a little pricey, I give this refill attractant 2 stars. Would I purchase this again? Probably if all my other homemade attractants fail again.

Works... but with a caveat or 2
So these have worked very well for me... but so far, only in the fall. Orange County, NY is where my house is...Had these up during mid-summer for a few weeks, but didn't get too many Yellow Jackets (have a few different kinds of wasps/yellow jackets at my house). I had several nests (small to large) around my house. 1 nest, which was probably the largest, was inside the outer wall near my front door. I hung 2 of the WHY traps (WHYTR-BB8) from my garage (approx 30 and 40 feet from the nest entrance) and also had one hung on the back side of the garage. In the late summer into fall, they were getting filled at least every 2 weeks with yellow jackets (the top portion was full... bottom was completely empty). I bought 2 more traps and had 1 on a fence on the edge of my driveway (approx 60 feet from the garage front) and it also caught yellow jackets.. but it was near the end of fall and there was less yellow jacket activity already.I trapped hundreds of the wasps over the course of 2 1/2 months or so (late summer through late oct). I have yet to try them in the spring, but plan on doing so this upcoming spring, and will update with results after then.

Attractant refills help reduce local yellowjacket population
I've used the WHY yellowjacket trap and refills for a couple of summers. The trap does catch yellowjackets and will reduce the population of nearby nests. It seems to take about two weeks for the insects to find the trap. After that period, more are trapped each day. My advice is to leave the trap and attractant alone until the water level gets low and is filled with insects. This has taken about a month, in my experience. The trap does not catch beneficial insects like various bee species, nor does it trap hornets or most other wasps. Most wasps leave people alone if they aren't threatened or disturbed. Yellowjackets, however, can be quite aggressive and will sting people and pets. They can sting repeatedly, unlike honey bees. Follow the instructions for trap placement and stay away from the nest if possible.

If you happen to have in your area the kind of wasps this attracts it works great. If you have different wasps it doesn't
Here's the deal on this stuff: If you happen to have in your area the kind of wasps this attracts it works great. If you have different wasps it doesn't. It happens to work great for me. It catches yellow jacket queens in the spring and I don't see wasps all summer. In the late summer I start to see some again. I reset the trap and it gets them all so they don't bother me. Bottom line: It's not that expensive. Give it a try. If it works then the trap itself lasts indefinitely and all you ever need again is refill kits.

Fairly satisfied
The product was very inexpensive compared to local brick and mortar locations. It works as well as ones I've bought in the past. But, when the product arrived (as an add on item within another shipment) the packages were puffed up, as sometimes happens when things are shipped by air. When I opened an individual bag/kit, air escaped and I found one or more of the (three) included vials or bottles had leaked and the instructions were damp but no other damage was found. I think it was the larger bottle containing the attractant for the upper, water filled, section that had leaked. It still works, I just added a little less water to keep the potency up.
