Very absorbent and great for starting seeds. The material did disintegrate after some time, but it is to be expected.

These pads are the cat's meow for growing the cat's wheat grass.Edit: After reading the 1-star reviews about it turning into a soggy mess after it got wet... well... potting soil does the same thing and that's the point. Put this pad in the place where you want the soggy mess and then, and only then, get it wet. I put wheat seeds on top of the "soggy mess" and then cover the whole thing with a wet paper towel. Wheat grass has miraculously appeared out of this pile every single time. The cat is pleased.Edit: I've since found that three spare squares of two-ply t.p. work just as well at sprouting the wheat grass.This doesn't diminish the 5-star quality of the product but does reduce my need for it.The cat remains pleased.

I was unsure how to rate these as I did have to return them. I was going to use them for a system that they perhaps were not designed for. I have 5x5 trays about 1 1/2 inches deep with plastic supports on the inside about 1" deep. The brown fiber matts are stiff even after been wet down and they hold their shape giving you a solid surface over the entire area of 5x5 at the 1" deep support spot. These matts became too pliable after being wet and need a solid surface to support them. It was like having a wet kleenex only thicker. I'm pretty sure with the right set up that these give good value for the money.

don’t waste your money. these things are useless. paper towels work better. for the price you pay for these you can get a big bag of potting mix and turn out perfectly rooted and delicious microgreens. they swell up and fall apart. the roots have nothing to grow into because it turns into mush. 1 star is generous. if I could leave zero stars I would. just stick with potting mix. this is neither convenient nor economical.

These are very nice for my microgreens but are small and for the price I probably will not be using many. I do notice that germination is more even and consistent when I use these. They hold moisture well without causing mold. Wish they were less expensive then I would use more often.

I didn’t like that I had to cut the sprouts off the pads. I feel like I wasted half the sprout.
