ASICSMen's Matflex 6 Wrestling Shoes

Fits tight, takes about a 2 hours workout to start breaking in. Very snug. Sole grips like crazy.
The shoes at first feels too small. It just needs to break in, it will stretch out as you wear it. Then it fits snug and is not loose fitting anywhere. Very snug fit, nothing sloppy about how well it fits your foot. I worked out hard for two to three hours and in about two hours it felt very conformed to my feet. I have used this brand for Martial Arts for almost twenty years. Perfect for Kung-Fu as well. Over the years I think the rubber on the sole has changed. This one is like a super grip. A bit more than I like. It even grips like crazy on a concrete drive way and too much on carpet. If you want the grip this shoe has it. For grip, I'd rate it A+++++! For pivots and spinning kicks, take care not to damage your knee, the grip won't allow normal movement in this department. They may still make other soles on their shoes, because my other ones, the sole is made of less sticky type rubber grip, perfect for just the right grip that allows all types of kicks. For wrestling they worked well too. The grip on this one makes me worry of not being able to get your foot loose and when pressured something is going to give in your feet, ankles or knees. I have seen feet get caught on the wrestling mat and it caused the person to get broken bones. For size, I just have got the same size as all my other ones in this brand, which is a 9 1/2 US size. In my Converse wrestling shoes the size is always a 9 in US size and I have used them for over 30 years. So think of this possibility of getting a half size bigger in these ASICS wrestling shoes. Well that's my honest review as for the use of this shoe for Martial arts. I have 56 years experience, completed Nationally and Internationally and taught hand to hand combat to special forces units in The United States Marine Corps.

Good value
Nothing fancy about these shoes. They are a good shoe without all the flair. Construction is good and they are holding up. They do run small. I wear a size 10 sneaker and had to get an 11.5

Great wrestling shoe
I’ve purchased 2 pairs of these for my son. He loves them. They hold up well, are comfortable, work well on the mats and we can get the size we need.

Size up a half size.
SIZING SUMMARY:These shoes fit true to size only if you have very narrow, flat feet. If you have average or slightly wide and/or slightly high arches, size up a half size. If you have very wide feet, size up 1 size or more. Because of the narrow shoe design it is unlightly your foot will slide down into the extra length from sizing up to accommodate foot width. The correct size will feel SLIGHTLY tight in the toe-box. A size too large will fit like a street shoe in the toe-box.I'm basing my "correct" size off of me using these shoes for freerunning. If you don't mind you're feet having a little wiggle room (like if you want these shoes for crossfit or general workouts, add a half size to my sizing recommendation above).IN DEPTH SIZING EXPLANATION BELOW:For context I'm a 5ft3in tall adult woman. I wear a women's 8.5 and a men's 7 in most shoe brands and found the SIZE 7.5 (men's) in these shoes to be most comfortable. I have an average to wide toe box (9.5in width while standing at widest point) and an average to high arch.I purchased this shoe in a size 7 and found it too be too small. I could squeeze my foot inside, but the toe-box was more narrow than my foot while standing barefoot and there was hardly enough room for my arch (you could see my sock if the tongue was pushed to the side even slightly.I purchased the 7.5 from another website and found the size 7.5 to fit much better. My feet don't slide around at all and the lack of lip on their soles helps me avoid rolling my ankles while wearing the shoes for freerunning and tricking. The lack of true arch support and tight toe box will take some getting used to, but I've heard wrestling shoes can stretch out, so I'm going to wait for that to happen. The shoes aren't something I'd recommend wearing for longer than your wrestling competition/workout because the tight fit isn't the most comfortable, but they definitely get the job down while you're wearing them. The back of my right ankle had a lot of chaffing during my wear despite me wearing thick, crew socks, so be ready to experience some chaffing while you're breaking the shoes in.

Read this before ordering.
Important!! These are women sizes. This is not a men shoe. I’m a size 7 on my street shoes and my running shoes ASICS Kayano I wear a size 8. These shoes after ordering them 3 times I finally settled on size 7 1/2. They are gorgeous shoes. They have a barefoot feel and more like wearing socks. They feel narrow at first but they stretch out.At first I ordered my size in men sizes bc it specified that these shoes were for men but they were like 2 full size too small. Then I ordered a size 7 1/2 and a size 8 at the same time to compare. I picked the size 8 because at first the size 7 felt too narrow. I returned the 7 1/2 then a few days later realized that the 8 are a little too long but great in width. I reordered the 7 1/2 and returned the size 8. I had no issues with my returns or customer service. I loved them and super happy with my purse. Get yours a half size bigger than your street size and only for narrow and normal width feet. ❤️

Size up and be patient.
I waited a few months to write this review. Out of the box, the shoes are tight, even purchasing a size 13 when I wear an 11.5 they were still tight, borderline uncomfortable/painful. I wore them around the house on and off for a few days to break them in slowly. If you’ve ever worn boxing or wrestling shoes then you know you most likely can’t wear them to the gym or a workout the day you receive them, so if this is your first pair then curb your excitement for putting them on and rushing to try them out at your favorite HIIT class. After a week or so around the house, they break in and mold to your feel perfectly. I wear them for everything. Lifting, boxing, HIIT and they are extremely comfortable. Highly recommended if you buy a size up and are patient. Not recommended at all if you aren’t.

Runs very narrow
Had to return this shoe because it is way too narrow, just like many other Assics shoes.
