if you haven't eaten fresh lychee, you are missing one of life's greatest pleasures.
Eating Lychee is a spectacular pleasurable experience. If you've gone your whole life long without tasting lychee, you've missed one of the pure joys of eating. The glistening, luscious fruit lies within a thin scaly "skin." An ambrosial nectar spurts if you are too rough so be gentle to peel then quick to pop the whole interior into your mouth. Don't bite hard. Inside the fragile comestible is an inedible seed. Your mouth will know what to do to scrape off what is edible while your fingers find the next. So easy to remove the cleaned seed with one hand and pop in another peeled fruit to repeat the process. The ONLY flaw with the fruit is its short "ripe" season. If you miss this year's harvest you MUST mark your calendar for April in the northern hemisphere. When lychee is out-of-season, I pine. No other fruit approaches the lychee for sheer pleasure. From sometime in April until the end of May/first week or so in June is all you can count on. When picked too green, the lychee are bitter. Picked to late...inedible. Picked and not handled properly, you don't want to know. You have to find a grower you can trust. I've found mine. There are a lot of claims made for lychee in terms of medicinal use. I won't bore you with the claims "eating lychee cures all." I can attest to "eating lychee makes you leave your troubles behind."http://www.fruitsinfo.com/fruit-facts/2012/02/health-medicinal-benefits-of-lychee/The small withered seeds (as opposed to the normal fat seeds) are called "chicken tongue" seeds - not a particularly romantic name but those with tiny seeds yield the most flesh. (I've also seen it spelled litchi)This year, I threw caution to the wind. I placed the order for 6 pounds of lychee determined to use the Amazon "satisfied customer" option. If I didn't like them I was sending them back with a nastygram. I received the box within 24 hours of placing the order, a day earlier than expected. When I opened the box, clouds parted and I could hear triumphant music. Six pounds this season was 175 lychee. Of those marvelous morsels, only one was leaking and I ate it anyway as I figured the box cutter probably nicked it since it was "fresh" juice. If you haven't eaten lychee before, do be tender with the seed. The seeds are said to be astringent and bitter. No point in ruining a sublime experience.Bon appetit!!!

WASTE OF MONEY!!
These were the worst lychee I have ever had. I was hopeful that the bad reviews I read were one offs but they weren't.They were either not ripe (green) or already molding( barely red, mushy with whit mold on outside). Which was crazy to see all together in the same box. The ice pack had already melted so the box and fruit smelled as well when I open the box. Needless to say I am very disappointed in spending this much money on something I couldn't even enjoy.DO NOT GET LYCHEE FROM THIS GROUP!!

Melissa's Fresh Lychees
Just got my order for lychees today. I saw the Fedx truck drive by me as I was headed to work and I thought "I wonder if there is anything on that truck for me." This was a around 2:00p. Well, when I got home from work, I saw a box sitting outside my door (it's now 11:00p). I couldn't wait to see what was in this package as I had ordered some other things besides the lychees.Long story short, I inspected the lychee before eating one and I was not disppointed at all. They looked just like the picture shown and tasted great! There was not a bad one in the bunch. The packaging was good, also. It came in a large clear plastic bag surrounded by lots of heavy brown paper. I ordered on Sat and rec'd Wed. I would definitly order again.

The very worst lychees EVER!
I have been eating fresh lychees since 1992, and these are by far, the very worst EVER!!! I could tell just by looking at them that they were going to be pretty bad. However, they were even worse than bad. If this is the best Melissa's Fresh Lychees can do, then they have no business being in business, and Amazon needs to prohibit them from doing business on Amazon. Anybody who knows anything about lychees would know that the lychees sent to me would be horrible. All I can say is that anybody contemplating doing business with this company should forget about it --- they know nothing about lychees. This was a total disappointment, and I'll never do business with Melissa's Fresh Lychees - because the lychees they are selling are anything but fresh, and they should be embarrassed for selling crap like this to the public.

Fresh and on time
I bought these last summer so it's been a while, but personally I had a good experience ordering a batch of lychees, they came on time and were fresh and good-tasting. I think when you buy fresh fruits on Amazon, it's always a bit of a gamble, because they come from different sellers even thou it's the same brand name. But since I couldn't find fresh lychees near me, I took the gamble and I was pleased.

First batch amazing, second batch.... not so much.
My first order of lychees from here would have warranted 5 stars. They were perfect, delicious, sweet and juicy. So I ordered one more batch. They arrived a yellowish color, and are bitter to taste, almost taste like they should be alcoholic. Sadly, I'm incredibly disappointed because they are big and thick lychees, but sadly incredible bitter. :( The first batch arrived in a mesh bag, this arrived in a plastic bag, which had condensation inside when I opened the box.
