Great solution for self-latching gates
This is made with heavy gauge metal and is very sturdy. Installation was easy with four holes drilled. One thing to be careful of, is that the latch can be sticky if you place it a little bit high. I used a grinder to take off the jagged edge to address this. It now works perfectly.

Worked perfectly for our purpose.
This was the perfect solution for an arbor that we purchased that had an attached gate. The gap was fairly wide on the gate so it was hard to keep it closed with the latch that it came with. This worked perfectly even though there was still a bit of a gap it locks it in place and doesn't allow it to swing either way. Super easy to install.

Strong lock. Functions as it should
Update 6/15/14, almost a year since installed. A couple of months ago, my gate opener started malfunctioning. When I opened the control box, I noticed the wires to the magnetic lock were so hot you couldn't touch them. The heat had deteriorated the insulation that covered a couple of in-line components (don't know what they are). It seems like the magnetic lock was faulty and burned out the control board of my gate opener. Even after I disconnected the lock, gate opener was still malfunctioning. Had to replace the control board, luckily under warranty. I'm hesitant to get another lock. If it becomes faulty and burns out another board, I'll be out of warranty. Another note: yes, it holds very well. BUT your gate has to have very little play. All the brackets and hinges need to be tight and well anchored. Excessive play will make it easy to force the lock open. It is very difficult to accomplish this with a dual gate setup because you're trying to hold together 2 moving parts, as I learned when one of my opener arm brackets developed some play. Single gate will work better because once side of the lock is stationary.Original review:2 months. All is well. We open and close the gate 8 to 12 times daily. Very strong lock. Tried pulling gate open, even tried prying a bit with a steel bar and it wouldn't release. Installing wasn't too hard. The only problem I had was the unit I received had Chinese instructions. Aleko's site had English instructions posted, though. Of course it's made in China. Everything is.Another reviewer said it performed poorly for him. I think it was either a defect, improper installation or the gate actuator themselves were not installed correctly. You have to use the soft washer that comes with the kit when installing the plate. The instructions didn't emphasize this, and the diagram wasn't clear as to what this washer was (why do instructions always use illustrations rather than actual photos?) but if you do some thinking, it only makes sense. The washer allows the plate to wobble a bit to compensate for mounting surfaces that don't mate completely flat. If the plate and magnet don't make full contact, you'll only get a fraction of the holding force because you only have a thin edge of contact rather than an entire flat surface. Another issue could be improper installation of the actuator(s). The actuator that opens/closes the gate should be installed solidly. If you are able to push the gate in or pull out too much because there's too much play from the actuator or brackets, the gate is allowed to move at an angle where the magnets will release.

Perfect
I ended up returning this lock because I received one directly from Aleko. It arrived first. Good solid construction. Easy to install. Looks fantastic

Better than the original
New circuit board with higher rating resistors, was working in minutes. I'm happy.

Works with LiftMaster new LA400
I was sooooo close to purchasing a $300 magnetic lock from LiftMaster to put on our new gate to keep it shut in the wind. I thought I would give this one a shot and I am so glad I did! It works perfectly and holds our 18’ wooden gate tight against the post. We have a LiftMaster LA400 opener and the lock works great with that. The screw they give you are total junk but everything else is fine.
