Szco Supplies Scottish Dirk

I've been a piper for 52 years, I'm not a novice! Scottish frugality keeps me from overspending, if I shop I can get 2-100x more for my money. I constantly peruse Amazon, EBay and Etsy for deals. I tend to prefer Amazon and Ebay, along with my credit card, I feel like I'm covered against junk and returns generally go without a hitch.Up pops this Dirk! The reviews went either way but the price made it well worth the chance.I will agree that the belt loop is a little thin for the job, $1 worth of leather With some sewing and we've solved that!Otherwise, nobody will know this isn't a far more expensive piece save for the India label on the blade. The etching is cool, the handle and details are nice.I've heard lots of complaints from others about Indian or Pakistani quality and yes, there is junk out there. Return it if its not good!I've purchased hundreds of dollars worth of their gear, hand selected. I've spoken to the factories and the operators have always been kind and friendly.Now I have to save my pennies and purchase a basket hilt sword from the same company!

The first time I wore this, the shiny part at the tip of the scabbard came off and the belt loop came apart. While you get what you pay for, this should have lasted more than four hours.

Looks like a very solid piece. The scabbard however arrived damaged. See photo. Unacceptable condition to give as a gift.

Beautiful scabbard, blade etching. Yeah, the blade is dull, but it's ceremonial. The point is sufficiently pointy to serve if it comes down to it, but I haven't attended a Scottish Highland Games or Renaissance Festival that has gotten THAT far out of hand. The only shortcoming: it does not include the leather strap to hang it from the belt. I already have one that works, but others need to know. That's why 4-stars and not 5.

This is absolutely amazing for the price. I haven't handled other replicas or originals, but this piece is very solid and well executed. Some of the fittings on the scabbard aren't very precise, but overall the scabbard is also solid and well executed. As for the dagger itself, it seems very solid and well constructed. the grip is attractive. the blade is stout, with no distal taper and the edge is extremely blunt. It's probably not possible to sharpen the blade with out wearing into the etching. the blade decoration is also well done, with the exception of "INDIA" etched into the blade on both sides down near the grip. That is a bit annoying. Highly recommended if you want a scottish dirk, but don't want to pay $100 that most of the other replicas go for.

When received the scabbard had two metal pieces that fell off. The scabbard would not hold the blade.

Not great quality of course, but did what I needed it to do.

Looks good enough; the scabbard and knife not quite match up, but still a 4.5. The blade is spoon dull, but if you needed to use this, too many other things have gone wrong beforehand.
