It is what it is. An awl.
I bought mine for whipping lines on a sailboat. Others might buy it to repair saddles or shoes or sandals or sails. It does not come with instructions on how to ride horses or to sail or to walk and chew gum. It is well crafted brass and is simple. It comes with a couple needles but you might want some more if you need specialty ones. I bought some sail repair needles to use in an emergency. This is probably not the tool you would want to use to make a new sail or a new saddle though as this is not the tool for that. It works well for whipping line. I don't need a sailmaker's palm when I use it and my hands don't cramp from pinching the needle and pulling it through.

Good basic tool, but takes a while to figure out.
It took me a while to figure out how this works. All the videos of Awls have a spool of thread build in. However if you search for "jerk needle awl" in youtube the first video gives a very good description on how to use this needle. After watching the video I tested in on a piece of nylon webbing and I found the stitch to be very strong even for someone who no sewing experience.I used this to make repairs on the edges of the canvas on my popup trailer. From years of use the canvas has ripped where the canvas attaches to the bed corners. This tool worked great for that use.

Solid needle
Solid handle convenient needle change, lousy storage, handle not large enough to store needles inside.

Simple and functional
Perfect kit for repairing rips and tears on convertible tops. Typical sewing needles are too delicate for thick fabrics, and typical leather sewing kits are an overkill for convertible tops. This kit was just about right. The nylon cord was sufficient, thought it ripped once.

Best thing ever!
LOVE THIS THING! I decorate shoes for a living. I’m currently working on my wedding shoes and hand sewing lace and beads to the shoe. The shoes are very well made, which lead to breaking 4 needles attempting a single stitch. I bought this tool to help me make my shoes. It works soooo well, comes with extra needles, very sturdy, and can double as a shiv in self-defense (multi-purpose tool). I don’t know how I lived without this in my life.

The description is misleading this isn't really copper.
What I should expect from a description of an item being offered online is enough information, both in the text and pictures, so you know exactly what you are getting. What seller need to do is properly set the customer’s expectations, what this means for the seller is that they get better reviews because the buy knows exactly what they are getting. This is an example of how not to do it.First of all, the item doesn't appear to be copper, and if it is, then it is a very low grade copper. Brass would be a much more accurate description of this metal.Secondly, they should have shown a picture of this item disassembled so you can see the quality of manufacturing. they didn't because there isn't. It looks like this item was hastily fabricated with no attention to detail or quality control. The cylinder that covers the section between the ball of the handle and the threaded needle gripper is too high a gauge(too thin) it will damage easily. As pointed out by other reviewers, this awl is a lot smaller than what it appears like in the pictures. It would have been better to have a picture to give potential buyers an idea of its size as well as the physical dimensions. Many people are better with images than numbers.I also have the same issue as a different reviewer, I expected the needles to be able to be stored in the handle. Now I have to buy another container to hold the needles for this awl. This is annoying for a couple different reasons, I have to shop for something else I did plan for, and, it is more likely that the two items won't be together when I need them. The seller could have mitigated some of it by offering a matching needle holder with this awl. However, for the price, it isn't too bad a buy. If you are handy you can clean up the roughness of this product and it will work in a pinch. I wouldn't consider this a professional, or even a hobby, grade tool, it's one you would have in your box of substandard tools for occasional repairs and quick fixes. One you wouldn’t care if it gets lost or broken.Side note, this isn't a real stitching awl, even if it does include thread, you can sew with it, but it's the "old-school" way. For Stitching Awls look for either the "Speedy Stitcher" or the CA Myers "Awl for All".

Very nice quality stitching tool
Very nice quality stitching tool. Little heavy for its size, but nice and easy to use. Needles need a few passes to really sharpen them, but all in all a nice set

handy DYI kit and good value for the price
Great DYI repair kit for a variety of projects, and I feel, it is good value for the price I paid. Certainly, it could tricky so secure the needle of choice in the mechanism, and it could come loose. However, the choice of needles included in the kit gives me different options to work around the issue. Also, the enclosed thread samples gave me a good sampling of threads to try and understand what types of threads to order next. Satisfied with the product and seller.
