The best mixing white for oil painters, reasonably priced.
There are many white oil paints available. I have pure Titanium white for coverage, Zinc white for translucency, underpainting white for grisaille, and generic mixing white for lower layers, a blend of Titanium and Zinc whites; and those are just the non-toxic whites. All serve their purposes. Weber’s Permalba white is my favorite for the final layers (where you want your top-quality paint) is actually no more expensive than many name-brand mixing whites. The texture is smooth, like warm butter, and the color is a very nice, pure white. It’s not chalky like pure Titanium white, and it’s not translucent and grayish, like Zinc white (it’s also cheaper). It’s my favorite white, over all.

Good properties; not immune to usual zinc+titanium issues
Permalba White, as I see it, is an unparalleled nontoxic opaque white because of its good balance of properties. It is relatively lightfast. It stays bright white for many years. It is reasonably stiff compared to other titanium whites and exhibits a relatively low amount of chalking-up (of course, with a titanium pigment some chalking is unavoidable). Cracking can happen but does not seem to be as bad as with other titanium+zinc paints as far as I can tell. The consistency is a bit sticky and unusual but very consistent—if you are an experienced painter, it will take a bit of getting used to, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. For the quality at the price point, and for its properties when its nontoxic pigments are considered, I consider this an excellent oil white well worthy of five stars.

Professional painter recommends
This is the only white I use after doing testing on the tendency of whites to shift color upon drying. This white had the least tendency to appear lighter or darker (when mixed in tints with other colors) upon drying, making easier to match fresh paint with a dry area and have them still match later. Different mediums also play a role in this problem, but this is the white to use. Creamy consistency, less tendency for the oil to separate in the tube than other brands, although that can vary from tube to tube and is probably affected by how long its been sitting on the shelf. Buy it.

For years have used Weber Permalba Oil Paint, white
So glad our local art store dealer, Paula Rose, introduced me to Weber Permalba white Oil Paint about 30years ago. Have always loved this creamy oil paint, that mixes well w other oil paints, has not yellowed.... What more can I say? It's not failed to perform, is made in the USA, and is reasonably priced product.

Great Product
I paint with oil paints and find that Permalba White is nice to use to mix with other colors. It is a buttery consistency which I find very pleasant to use. Good product all around!

Permalba is great white oil paint, I just got two tubes that had bent ends
Permalba is great white oil paint, I just got two tubes that had bent ends and sent one back to be exchanged. Second tube came the same way so although I love this paint, will buy elsewhere in the future.
