Works well with SIP Phone and Jabra Go 6400
I purchased this item because my SIP phone (supplied by my company) did not have a "Dedicated RJ-9 headset port" (only a 2.5mm headset jack like most mobile phones have). I would prefer having a SIP phone with dedicated RJ-9 headset port to eliminate the need for this item, but that's how it goes... I use a wireless headset solution called the Jabra Go 6400 that has the RJ-9 jack, but no support for 2.5mm. Therefore, I had to purchase the GN 1000 to connect to the Jabra Go 6400 base station. It works flawlessly now. I don't have to physically pick-up the handset each time and put it down on my desk when I want to make a call using my Jabra headset now. Btw, highly recommend the Jabra product too for an integrated system that works with Skype, and SIP service from your laptop or phone as well as connected to your mobile phone! 3-in-one wireless headset! Love it.

Works great for a "Made in China" Handset Lifter...Not made to work forever.
This is my third unit in 5-6 years; but I use it 50 hours a week. When broken down cost per hour used; it is a bargain. Adjusts upward lift very easily, via built-in control slide; is not engineered to allow the adjusting of the lowering of the handpiece. Ultimately it will begin to NOT hang up completely from time-to-time; you need to think about a new one then and buy it. Hello Direct / HP Unified Netcom have a superior Customer Service Department; they can help on the headset, but not too much on this component if it is "taking-a-dive". Customer Service @ 800.343.4441; Extraordinarily Helpful.

Great lifter, better design would be nice
I have been using this product for over three years now and have been happy with it overall. It is faster at lifting the handset than the Plantronics units I have used which is nice. It installs easily, and has both a built in mic, and an external mic that you can hook up to alert you when the phone rings. The sensitivity of this mic is also adjustable with a built in dial. I have used this lifter on Nortel M2008, M2016, Cisco 7941, and 7961 phones with no problems. My only complaint is the durability of the unit. I have broken 2 in 3 years, the first by accidently holding the handset down when it was trying to lift. The second time it just wore out. What happens is after a failure, when you try to use it you get a bad clicking noise. What happens is that there is a threaded shaft attached to the electronic motor which breaks loose. It is attached only with some kind of glue that can't handle any kind of torque. I was able to fix it with some super glue and it has been working for a few weeks. One nice thing is that it doesn't seem to fail partially, when it breaks it breaks for good. So you aren't left wondering if the unit will work when you press the button.Overall I have been happy with this lifter. I have ordered and installed this unit many time in my Enterprise. The design could be better, but it is inexpensive and reliable.

Junk
I had to remove the bar that goes under the phone receiver and fashion a paperclip into an offset lifter in order to make the unit work. The bar that was included did not allow the lifter to hang up the phone completely and the supposed adjustment lever made absolutely no adjustment --- the lifter worked exactly the same way regardless of where the adjustment lever was set.Obviously I have a defective unit, as I was had to "McGyver" this one to work with my phone. Worked for a while, but then the paperclip started catching on the handset - the lifter has been removed and is bound for the garbage since it has now past the time I can return it.

If you have the Jabra GO 6470, you want this!
We got the GN Netcom Jabra GO 6470 Headset for all the guys in our office BDC. We knew about this Handset lifter but didn't initially buy it because of cost, thinking "do we really need this $45 add on just to lift the phone?!".... Let me answer that for you: YES!You can buy other cheap wired headsets for your desk phone. Getting the Jabra 6470 is great, but without this headset lifter you are just getting the same headset without the wire. You won't be able to use the 6470 to its full potential without this lifter. The guys in our BDC can now answer/hang up the phone even while away from their desk. They can walk around the room, look outside at our inventory, and be able to communicate with their customers without sprinting across the office to answer/hang up.One downside: The set up instructions are absolutely terrible. No descriptions, just bad Ikea style drawings. HOWEVER they make up for it by having EXCELLENT customer service. Just call them up, they answer quick every time and walk you through the process for your phone model.I wish they sold this as a combo pack because this is essential to the 6470.

Replaced My Old One
I had to replace the original version of this thing that I have owned for years. That one slowly went bad over time, and exhibited all sorts of strange behaviors when connected with my GN Netcom DECT headset system. It didn't pick up some times, and other times, it wouldn't hang up after a call. The advice from the folks who sold it to me was to "bang on the side of it," which worked most of the time, but hardly instilled confidence in the product. Well, the time finally came when my frustration must have been too much, and I broke the stupid thing. So, it was time to either scrap my expensive headset system, or find a replacement. This one works well, and feels lighter too, so they must have altered the parts in it at some point. In any case, I'm happy to have one that works, and hope that it continues to do so.

Manual automation at its best
what a crazy gizmo, but it works flawlessly! I bought this for work when I was setting up one of my bosses with a wireless headset for his office phone. Now he can answer and hangup from anywhere in the office. He presses the button on the ear piece and this device literally lifts or drops the handset on his desk phone.Nice bridge between old and new technology
