This media works great! Installed 1.5 cu ft Katalox in 10x54 tank with 15 lb gravel. No iron in the water now. First backwash was 45 minutes and fast wash for 5 more. Even with that, took 3-4 more cycles over a couple weeks to get the media totally clean. Totally worth it - our water is clear and clean! Replaced inadequate filter AG media, which was my fault. Thanks for selling in this quantity! Otherwise I would have had to buy two full bags, and do I don’t know what with the extra half.Update - a few months into using this, we started having little black grains show up in our bathtub and had brown stains on some of our dishes in the dishwasher. After further analysis and testing, turns out the Katalox filters out the iron but ended up exposing the manganese in our well water and doesn't filter that, which is apparently a known side effect of this product. So we ended up having to stop use of this. If you don't have manganese in your water, this should work great.

After researching for months to replace my carbon filtration for the Hydrogen Sulfide (Rotten Egg Smell) in my water with something more all encompassing and more effecrive,I found Katalox. The replacement was easy, and after getting some settings adjusted on my water filtration unit. I have crystal clear odor free water. I bought a 21 parameter test kit and tested my water and I have clean results all the way through the harmful metals and minerals. The media itself filters down to 3 microns, so I run a 1 micron 10" after the katalox to polish the water. I would recommend highly for anyone on a well.

This media for high iron is far superior to birm or greensand. I replaced the birm in mine with this and it immediately took care of my high iron problem (10 ppm). The birm media I had lasted only about 4 years due to my high iron, they claim katalox will last 7-10 but time will tell. I have checked all over for prices and katalox is usually well over $300 for 1 cu/ft. To get 1.5 cu/ft for $283 is an unbelievable deal. I might buy another order and just store it for now.

Do you have nasty egg smell water? Put this into an air injection filtration system and you won't.

I just replaced this on an Greensand Iron filter that has been in light service for ~ 6-7 years. Immediately, everything seemed great. It is at a vacation home and not used year round. After replacing the media, I left the house unoccupied for ~ 1 month. On return, there was no iron in the water (which is usually very obvious when left untreated), but it had a strong sulfur odor. This clear after the first 12 hours of use but I'm waiting to see if still stays clear by time I get back.
