The best Chef knife there is - slices through everything like butter
I did a LOT of research on knives for months before making this purchase. I compared all the lines within like Wusthof & Zwilling, Japanese ones like Shun, Miyabi, Global etc. Wusthof in my opinion was the best all round winner - Quality, looks, durability, ease of maintenance and price. Moreover, this particular deal - Chef and paring knives for $172 is a steal. (Only the chef knife is worth $180 everywhere else). The Chef knife is a killer knife, slices through anything you want like its butter. And it feels absolutely perfect in your hands. Do not underestimate the paring knife - its fantastic for cutting fruits and vegetables - we use it everyday as well.I am sticking to my promise to only hand wash these.

Stop buying cheap knives
Look in your kitchen. You see all those many knives you have in the cheap Costco/Sam's Club/Walmart set you bought? They're all terrible. The whole reason you think you need all the different types is because not one of them is high quality.Get yourself just 1 high quality chef's knife and you'll find you never use those knives again. Who needs a tomato knife when you can cut transparent sheets of tomato with your good knife? The only other knife I now use is a bread knife, that's it.

Love my Wusthof knives and these are no exception
Love my Wusthof knives and these are no exception.I went into stores (both Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma) when I was upgrading my knives. I handled a lot of knives before making my choice to go with the Wusthof line. I then bought knives at both stores and on Amazon (who ever had best price for the piece I wanted). My favorite of the Wusthof line is the Classic (not Ikon). It just fits my hand and I feel like I have the most control over those blades. That being said, from the reviews more people prefer the ergonomic handle on the Ikon - showing its just my personal opinion. What made me go with this Ikon set is that unlike the Classic, the bolster does not run the full height of the blade. As the paring and chef's are my most used blades, they will need sharpening far more often and not needing to file down a bolster is a selling point.Once I became accustomed to the handle on the chef (paring was never an issue) I was fine. I don't regret the purchase at all. I just recommend that because of the personal preference and fit of the user, you should always handle blades before buying them (especially if investing this much in an item you will have/use for many years to come.

Love this knife
What a beauty! This knife is very, very sharp, slices and dices vegetables with no effort. Perfect curve in the blade for rocking but also will slice well. Feels good in your hand. I wanted a knife with the functionality of a big chef knife but smaller and this knife is perfect. I just got it a couple of days ago but I can tell it will be my go to knife for most jobs because it's already my favorite knife.

Fantastic knife
I have used cheap knives, and I have used what I *thought* were good knives. But this knife is in a class by itself. You can feel the difference in the metal itself, which rings almost like a tuning fork. Unbelievably sharp, and it *stays* sharp for longer. Well balanced, handsomely designed. For an object that I will own for the rest of my life, I'm glad I spent the money to buy quality. Worth it.

Best cook's knife I've ever handled.
With a huge passion for cooking and delighting in always cooking meals for my family, I decided that I would finally splurge on a really good, somewhat expensive knife. After doing all my research, I felt this one would meet all my needs, and boy does it! Super sharp, keeps its edge, is fantastically easy to handle and just slices through everything like room temperature butter. I couldn't be happier and just wish I had the means to buy more.

Should have done this years ago!
Like many folks, we had a couple of drawers full of kitchen knives of varying degrees of quality. Some were "gimmies," some were purchased, none were top quality. My wife and I both come from humble circumstances and the idea of paying this much for kitchen knives seemed ludicrous. However, I am glad we took the plunge and I wish we had done so sooner. Great to use the best!

Upgrade from the Wustoff Classic
I should give this a lower rating because now we need a full set of Ikons to replace our aging Classic set. That doesn't seem fair though since the Classics are over a decade old and have served us well.If any of you out there are wondering if the Ikon is an upgrade from the Classic I am here to say that they are. Since I sharpen our own knives the half tang is huge improvement over the Classics full tang. The Ikons also sit and feel better in your hand while cutting. Is this worth the price? That is up to each individual, but these few upgrades made it worth it to us.

I am totally in love with this knife. My forever knife. I'm mostly cooking veggies, and I take great care of it, wiping it with a soft cloth after washing it manually. I'm not sure how long the blade sharpness will last. As I'm using it every day for a few minutes for chopping veggies, the sharpness is still there after a few weeks. I'm planning on getting a honing tool to help maintain the blade. I'd like to try a wusthof santonku next, as I'm very impressed with the quality of this blade.

Really happy with this purchase
Having used 2 or 3 brands of quality knives inc. Global & not got on with them, I took a gamble on these. What a great decision!Look good, razor sharp out of the box, easy to hold, well balanced, good weight, comfortable & being Wusthof, should hold their edge well & last a lifetime!Expensive yes, but should be worth it in the long run. This 2 knife set offers better value for money.Have bought a Wusthof 2 stage pull through sharpener, not ready for a whetstone yet!

Outstanding knives.
Purchased as a gift for my partner who is extremely happy with it. Bought along side the single 6 inch knife from the same set.Perfectly weighted, well designed and impeccably sharp - after almost 3 weeks of use the edge is still as sharp as when it arrived. As a kitchen knife they are certainly on the expensive side but its worth spending more on a quality blade so you don't end up having to sharpen your knives every week just to keep a keen edge.

Excellent professional standard knives
I’m an amateur home chef and these are my first ‘proper’ knives. They are superbly designed, beautifully weighted and super sharp, it makes such a difference when prepping food.I haven’t yet mastered professional chopping, I have however successfully shaved the ends of my fingers a number of times. Be careful!
