I want to go to all these places!

Planning a trip to Japan in October 2022 and plan on the second half of the trip to be all onsens. This book have great info in it but I would really like to see more pictures of the actual baths themselves. Still a useful tool for trip planning but like the saying goes a picture is worth a 1000 words.

As a hotspring fanatic living in the states it can be tough to get a handle on all the nuances of the Japanese Onsens. The websites for these onsen are usually poorly organized and don't translate well with online tools. This book does an amazing job of pulling together all the important information; highlighting historical landmarks, noting regional delicacies to try or cultural taboos, most importantly the book is gorgeous with brilliant photos and a layout that simply can't be beaten for utility and ease of use.

Great product and helped me pick some of the onsens I stayed at while in Japan. My favorite was staying at the onsen that is actually on the cover of the book. The service was amazing and we had a 17 course dinner! Our room looked out onto the river. It was a bit of a journey from Tokyo and the traveling was a bit complicated (much easier on the return journey). This is also a great place if you have tattoos. If you go it’s opened 24 hours. We went early in the morning and watched the sunrise coming over the snow covered mountains while sitting in the onsen. This book was very helpful in planning our trip!

This book was published in 2018. Of the ten or so onsen I looked up, nearly all were listed as permanently closed. I originally got this book to find tattoo-friendly onsen but I found more luck searching for “tattoo” in online reviews.
