Sunco Ultra Thin Recessed Ceiling Lights
These lights are the easiest, new install recessed lights I have ever installed and I have installed several different types, from the full can, mounted to the joist type, to the electric box mounted to the light type, to these, with a free floating electric box. What I love about these is you do not have to worry about the location of the ceiling joist because the insert is only 1/2” deep, meaning that if you cut your hole and hit a joist the light will still go into the cut out, unbothered by the joist. You can pull the wire out of the ceiling and splice your wires inside the box and push the box into the ceiling and then connect your light to the pigtail from the box, then rotate the light insert around the hole until the two light clips clear the joist and presto, the spring tension on the light will pull the light up flush to the ceiling. I put 6 of these in the recessed opening, in my kitchen, that previously held 4 duel 4’ tube fluorescent lights. I ran into a joist on all 6 of the lights, but no problem, the job came out perfect, with many compliments from neighbors and family. I used a 6” hole saw, purchased here on Amazon. On some of the lights I had to rotate the light fixture around until I located the position where the light would pull up snug to the ceiling. The beauty of these lights is that you can locate exactly where you want each light, then mark the location and drill the hole, without worrying where the ceiling joists are located, which allows you to perfectly center your light, or light cluster. I used these 6 lights to replace eight 40Watt fluorescent tubes and the light was actually brighter from these lights than the tubes were putting out. One last comment, the electric box is pretty small, suitable for two 14 gauge wires, usually one in and one out to the next light, but some situations will dictate more wires, which can be challenging. In one box I needed to splice four 14 gauge wires, which would normally not be doable, but I managed to do it and still put the lid on the box tightly, here’s how, I took the four wires and cut them to exactly the same length, stripped off the jacket, just enough to keep the jacket inside the box, stripped off about 1/2” of the insulation on the eight individual wires, tried them tight together with a zip-tie to keep the ends flush, inserted them inside the box and wire nutted the eight white wires together and then did the same to the black wires. All the wire and wire nuts should fit flush inside the electric box opening. Good luck on your lighting project.

Wow - Great Product
These lights are amazing. They give out so much light. We never really use them at 100% except when we clean. We paired the lights with the smart switch in the link below. We hooked it up with Google and couldn't be happier. It can be controlled by voice or on a timer and you can tell it to go whatever percent brightness you want. Now the difficult part, the install. I have experience with electrical and construction, so it wasn't super hard for me. That being said I still had a very experienced friend help me out. It took us about 4 hours to do it all. Laying them out was easy, cutting holes was easy with a 6-inch hole saw for a drill. Even running the Romex wire to the lights was kind of fun and not super difficult. Black to black, white to white, ground to ground. I love the detachable black junction box. That saves your life when you're in the attic for 4 hours and you don't have to crank your neck down and be in a weird position to attach the wires. You pull the junction box away from the light, attach all your wires and throw the box back on the light. The lights snap-in so easy with the little metal clips. With every project, something always seems to go wrong and get messed up, but this has to be the first where that didn't happen at all. Everything went according to plan. These things are so low profile they don't stick up in the attic or take up any space really. The only difficult part was finding what wire to tie the power into. We just tied it into the microwave power in the attic, which might not be best practice but it works for us. These draw so little power and the microwave does too, that it made the most sense. We haven't noticed any issues whatsoever. Running wire down the wall to the switch was a little difficult, but with the right tools and help it was all pretty straight forward. It was a great learning experience and I feel so much more comfortable now with electrical. I spent more time then I ever wanted to in my attic, but it was worth it.I couldn't be happier with these and will definitely buy more in the future.https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K67D43J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
