Great message!
In a society that has trended toward participation trophies and "everyone's a winner", this is a refreshing lesson! The book is cute, with a relatable storyline. The illustrations are nicely done.

Kids love it!
Every year I start out with this story. Then all I have to say is, "You get what you get..." and the kids finish with, "...and you don't throw a fit." I, of course, love to show them how silly a fit would look over something silly like a red pencil o ER a yellow one. We are all laughing at the end, and it's a lesson well learned!

Good lesson to read to 3.5 year olds!
We read this to my daughter several nights in a row to help her learn the lesson! =) It seems to have helped a bit, but 3 1/2 is just a terrible age. It's a cute book and I'm sure we'll be pulling it out for months to come!

A must have for Kinder teachers and parents of young children.
Love the message of this book. It's short and easy to understand but helps to teach good social skills to both my students and my children at home. This is a must have book for early childhood teachers.

Good story, but the book binding is missing stitches..
Loved the story - even for my 8 year old..this is a good reminder for him that “you get what you get...and you don’t throw a fit!”Only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is that it is missing stitching (see photos). I don’t know how long the book will last? My son is rather rough with his books, and I can see this book in pieces by the 3-4 reading...

Excellent book for teaching
Excellent book!I read this book every year to my first graders to help them understand the rules!! And that it's okay if you don't get the blue scissors, because... YOU GET WHAT YOU GET.... AND YOU DON'T THROW A FIT!

You get what you get and you don't throw a fit!
Bought this for my Jekyll/Hyde 1yo terro---I mean, toddler. But our 3yo fell in love with it. We read it often and he likes to repeat "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit!" when someone else is being cranky. Very cute book.

Lively story, completely believable characters, charminglly illustrated, and a diabolically lovely twist that should leave the listenerer both smiling and thinking. Plus a captivating and rhyming refrain inviting kids to join in the story! A five star winner for sure!

Fantastic!
This is a really good books to help kids get in touch with their feelings/emotions. It's great that some schools are starting to use this in their curriculum. I hope more follow suit.

Ok book but not good at explaining it
It’s ok book but it doesn’t explain why you get what you get. I keep the book because I want to explain this subject to my son when he’s older
