Such a great purchase. Very pleased. Only complaint is that the side pockets don't come out far enough on the bottom to fit a water bottle. The smaller front pocket could be bigger, but they work very well.

This is being used by my 12-year-old daughter. She has a school-issued iPad that she has to transport to and from school. It's important that it's well protected otherwise I have to buy it! This backpack offers so many levels of protection that I can't think of a better backpack for her. To start off with we have the style, being a pre-teen style is important to my daughter. She has to be original but stylish, this backpack has a retro but modern style that stands out without being flashy.The front of the backpack features a pull over flap that protects the main section of the backpack. This flap is padded and attaches to the backpack via a faux leather strap with metal buckles. The buckles are magnetic but they are also full functioning should you prefer to unlatch them.Underneath the flap is an 11x5 inch pocket that goes across the bottom width of the backpack. What I like about this zipper pocket is that internally, the front of the pocket is lined with a plastic layer to prevent water from getting inside the pocket. Unfortunately, the backside of this pocket isn't lined, doing so would have made this great for my daughter's art supplies which are prone to leaks.Once you open the flap two additional sections are revealed. The smaller of the two is 11x13 inches. The front of this zipper pocket is padded, the back is as well but it's done so on the other side of the pocket, the main compartment.The next section under the flap is the main compartment which measures 14x20 inches. This section is padded on the front and back. The sides aren't padded with exception to the laptop sleeve inside the main compartment. There's a 13x11 inch laptop sleeve sewn into the middle of the main compartment. It closes with a velcro strap. Behind it is the back wall of the backpack which has a 7x5 inch pocket sewn into the lining.The focal point of this backpack for me is the laptop sleeve. This is where my daughter puts her iPad. It's protected from all sides from impact damage and water damage. I do think adding padding to the sides of the main compartment would offer an extra layer of support but I'm not sure how necessary it would be as this seems to offer excellent protection.Each side of this backpack has a 6x5 inch open pocket. The front of this pocket is lined with plastic to prevent water damage. Unfortunately, the backside of this pocket isn't lined as well. I would have liked to have seen this side of the pocket lined.The backpack has a faux leather handle at the top. The two shoulder straps are padded and they have a plastic adjustable buckle. I really would have liked metal buckles that matched the front of the backpack. I would have liked to have seen the pockets lined with plastic on both sides instead of just the front. This would have provided additional waterproofing. I would also have liked to have seen the sides of the main compartment padded for additional impact protection.
