I never face winter without this animal-friendly and works-as-promised melter
This does everything it claims -- but you have to use it correctly. (It amuses me when people complain about products they've clearly misused.) Not too much, not too little, and spread evenly. Some trial and error might be needed, depending on the severity of the conditions. For example, I found it won't melt through thick layers of ice, but it will get the process started and begin breaking it up, adding traction. Then I add a little more after that, until the ice is gone. I've found it works best when it's spread before the forecast calls for ice or snow.Rock salt I've used may have clipped right through ice, but at a severe cost that I'm not willing to incur. Safe Paw Ice Melter is non-toxic and, after our dogs sniff a little and try it out, they lose interest. Off we go for a run or walk, and all I have to clean up is wet paws, not bleeding pads.In the DC metro area, ice is a serious issue because we frequently warm up during the day and re-freeze at night. I've owned several rescued dogs who have been through enough, including a border collie mix now with paw fur that catches everything, and I sure don't want them to get sore paws or sick from salt products. Nor do we want our and neighborhood kids crashing to their butts. When you use it judiciously, as it recommends, it lasts quite awhile. Some people note that the pellets seem to "melt" the ice only around each pellet, but that's not the case. It might look that way, a bit pockmarked, but the meltwater appears to spread the components so the whole surface is affected. I'm guessing that's why they suggest you spread it evenly but not too thinly or thickly.I would recommend buying one 8-lb container plus the better-value bucket -- then refilling the container and using that because it has a convenient shaker lid you can turn shut, from which it's easy to broadcast. I keep mine by the door outside and it stays dry.Happy crunching!

Works Great! Fantastic Customer Service!
First snow of the season yesterday. I threw a small amount of Safe Paw down on the various surfaces we have which are stamped stained concrete, Trex, Asphalt, Westcoat concrete overlay on roof above coffee shop and brushed stained concrete. That pre test showed Safe Paw did not negatively affect any surfaces. It snowed about 4” and this morning when I broomed each surface, every one was slushy underneath, including the Trex which is decking and allows airflow underneath. The low last night was 17F so I was very happy with the results and cleanup today. The only residue from any of the surfaces was on the brushed concrete. None of the others had any whatsoever. It looked like a small salt circle and wiped off easily and did not reappear or stain. I wasn’t sure how a product that doesn’t harm pets or plants would work but this absolutely does. This is the product we will use on our property from now on.The seller, Spreetail, was awesome to work with. Great communication and they make sure the customer is happy. Great seller and I highly recommend!!

Good for the lawn, good for the pavement, pet friendly, and melts ice as advertised.
We liked the bucket. This product is good for the lawn, good for the pavement, pet friendly, and melts ice as advertised. My only complaint is that the delivery left the bucket on my driveway instead of delivering to my front door. In their defense, the bucket is quite heavy. Well we didn't use much ice melt this year, however, the bucket seals really well. We should be able to use this product without issue next year if needed.

Works great in very cold weather
Surprised by how well this worked in a recent bout of horribly cold and windy weather. Better than most animal safe ice melt. The canister is very easy to handle and distributes granules well.Took 1 star off for the high price

Don't Get Caught In An Icestorm without this product! Buy in Summer !!!!
Our second purchase of the Safe Paw Ice Melter.Preface: We live in Tennessee, so snow & ice is few & far between. We have a relatively steep driveway that ices easily. We also have several retail stores that we de-ice the entrances of.Pro's:1) Affordable when purchased Spring - Summer. If you wait until Fall/Winter, all Ice Melt gets expensive and hard to find.2) Salt free & doesn't destroy concrete like other de-icing products.3) Safe for pets! Our Saint Bernard doesn't seem to have any issues with it.4) Doesn't kill fescue grass!Con's:1) Expensive compared to rock salt alternatives2) Can't think of anymore. Although ~ I have no research for sub 0 temps. We use in mainly 20-30 F degree temps when rare ice storms hit Tennessee. We originally got a small pail of this (I believe it was the 8lb tub). We used several during the 2015 Ice Storms of Tennessee. We used it both after Ice had already formed, and prior to ice forming when our driveway was already cleared.Key for when ice is already an inch+ thick. Spread evenly (not too thick) and let it sit. You will hear cracking almost immediately. If you start shoveling now ~ it won't have time to cut in to that ice and get underneathe it. I let sit for ATLEAST 30-45 minutes, then start chipping away. Once under it ~ its a breeze to remove. We'd make two 18" paths for wheels on a good 100+ foot concrete driveway and it did the job well.Adding prior to snow/ice ~ We had no problems at all.Unlike our neighbor who used standard rock salt ~ we had no chips or issues with concrete. Our neighbor who used rock salt now has chips/cracks, wherever the rock salt reached the concrete! We'll be using this product for the forseeable future, and we now have big 35+ lb pails at home and at our retail stores! Don't get caught without it!

Best for dogs
I like that this melts ice and is gentle on my dog's paws. Seems to last a while as well -- One night the porch was icy I had spread this on the steps. Next morning, the pellets were still visible, just smaller.
