PSB did well when they made this unit
To the seller, thank you for the rapid shipment and the excellent secondary packaging. The unit arrived in pristine condition.I purchased this subwoofer to replace the recently deceased (February 13th, 2019) Cambridge Soundworks Basscube 8S subwoofer that I purchased in a 5.1 setup in the early 1990's (that the little unit from Cambridge lasted >20 years and multiple cross-country moves is impressive, but the little internal amplifier finally had enough). I have wanted to upgrade for many years, but never really had an excuse to do it.My system consists of all computer stored audio files (all my CD's have been ripped to APE files using JRiver Media Center, and I have a number of high-resolution albums, several of which are 192 KHz 24 bit, from HDTracks). Playback starts with my HT Omega Claro Halo outfitted with Burson Audio Supreme Sound Op Amps. The unamplified signal is sent to my NAD preampilfier (I don't happen to recall the model number), which feeds to my Bose1801 power amplifier, loving restored by Sheldon at Champlifier in Alameda (seriously, Sheldon is absolutely my hero). The Bose1801 sends amplified signal to a pair of PSB Alpha B1 speakers. The NAD preamp has a sub pre-out, and it is this line which is used to deliver low frequency signal to the subwoofer. It is early in my time with this new subwoofer. Right out of the box it is a thing of beauty, which probalby is to be expected for a unit >$600. So far, the bass is precise, not muddy. It will take some time for me to dial in the crossover and phase settings to my liking, but right off the bat I am very pleased. In combination with the PSB Alpha B1 speakers, this subwoofer is absolutely perfect for my living room.
