The Black Grizzly of Whiskey Creek
It is well written, as I find all his books. There was a lot of information about living in bear country: which we have to do in my community, so that aspect was interesting. The reason for the bear attacks that year was also well described. It was particularly poignant this year, as we have a similar situation,(different cause) with the same results!

THE BOOK SELLER ALONG WITH AMAZON WERE WONDERFUL; GREAT PRICE AND FAST DELIVERY, SADLY, I HAVE A NEIGHBOR WHO ENJOYS KEEPING A FEW OF MY DELIVERIES WHEN THE UPS DUDE GOES TO THE WRONG PORCH AND LEAVES IT. AS FAR AS THE BOOK IS CONCERNED, WELL, IT'S AN OKAY READ. HE HITS THE NAIL HARDLY ENOUGH CONCERNING THE POLITICS OF THE PARKS' DEPARTMENT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER. HERE'S MY EXAMPLE AS I LIVED NEAR GLACIER[APPROX. 500 YARDS]. A IDIOT TOURIST FROM CALIF. DECIDED IT WOULD BE FUN FOR HER AND HER SON TO ''TEASE'' A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE CINNAMON COLORED BLACK BEAR WITH FOOD. PERHAPS SHE SHOULD OF JUST PUT HONEY ON HER BUNNY AND LET THE BEAR...WELL, YOU GET THE POINT. ANYWAY, THE LIL' GUY SWATTED AT THE LADIES SON AND THEY WENT CRYING BUT SADLY, NOT ALL THE WAY HOME, NO, INSTEAD THE PARK PATROL DECIDED TO KILL THE BEAR INSTEAD OF WORKING WITH THE FISH AND GAME AND TRANSPORTING THE BRUIN TO THE BOB MARSHALL OR THE GREAT BEAR WILDERNESS IN OUR BACKYARD. THE POLITICS OF ALL GOVERMENTS USUALLY CONTAIN NO COMMON SENSE. OF COURSE, PEOPLE NEED MORE TRAINING THAN BEARS BY FAR. THE BOOK IS FULL OF A FEW FACTS BUT IS LIKE REALLY GOOD FROSTING OVER OKAY CAKE AS IT LEAVES YOU WANTING MORE ICECREAM WHEN YOUR COUSIN ATE IT ALL THE DAY BEFORE. I WISH THE BOOK HAD GOT INTO MORE MEAT AND BONES AS FAR AS THE ATTACK WAS CONCERNED EVEN DESCRIBING IN MORE SIMPLE WORDS THE SURROUNDINGS AND MORE[MUCH MORE] ON THE BEARS AS WELL AS WALKING IN THE BEARS' PADS. MUCH TO MUCH IN THE WAY OF HIGH-FALUTELY WORDS THROUGH-OUT THE BOOK AS IT COULD HAVE A PART TWO WHERE THE AUTHOR COMBINES A REAL GOOD BEAR STORY WITH FACT AND FICTION. AS FAR AS ''BLACK'' GRIZZLIES CONCERNED; I HAVE HUNTED AND PHOTOGRAPHED MANY A BRUIN. I HAVE SEEN BLACK BEARS FAR BIGGER THAN GRIZZLIES IN MULTIPLE COLORS. BLACK BEARS WITH MULTIPLE COLORS. WHEN A TRULY BIG BOAR STANDS ON A HILL FACING UP, HE WILL OFTEN LOOK LIKE A GRIZZ. I HAVE SEEN GRIZZLIES NEARLY AS DARK IN COLOR AS SOME OF THE ALMOST BLACK PHASED BLACK-BEARS. I HAVE WATCHED TOURISTS IN GLACIER WATCH BLOND COLORED BLACK BEARS AND TELL ME THE BRUIN IS A GRIZZ. WHO IS TO SAY THAT BLACK BEARS AND GRIZZLIES DON'T DO THE HORIZONTAL MAMBO LIKE POLAR AND ARTIC GRIZZ HAVE DONE AS THEY ARE FORCED INTO LIVING CLOSER. ANYWAY, THE BOOK IS OKAY AND GOOD TO HAVE ON THE SHELF BUT SERIOUSLY, COULD USE ALOT MORE CREATIVITY. THANKYOU TO THE BOOK-SELLERS AND AMAZON. I LOVE YOU GUYS!

Great book
Now I realize what a fool I was to go searching for grizzlies on my recent trip to Banff. We went out at dusk hoping to run into one. Now I am so glad we didn't!

A Report on The Black Grizzly of Whiskey Creek:
It was a good read. It does give a different perspective that no one has given before. The author makes the reader think.

interesting enough
Sid Marty's approach to the "story" is intriguing. For more than half the book it is like a mystery as to who/which bear is to blame, this keeps the pages turning but also became a little irritating, if that's possible. I did enjoy the book but also had that feeling of speeding up to get to the good bit....I loved "men for the mountains" and will keep it forever, this one, not so much.

A few too many big (smartas) words.
Whilst at times the details seem to me to be too specific and drawn out to the point of virtual boredom. I felt the need to speed read some of the pages. Having said that,it is still very worth reading if you are an outdoors person.I am just a bear enthusiast and can fully recommend his first book, Men for the Mountains, showing his early times as a Park Warden. Informative but written with a sense of humour . Sad to see how over the years the wildlife numbers have suffered as man encroaches on their natural habit with for the most part sad endings for the animals.
