The Walking Dead Volume 32: Rest in Peace

Goodbye Old Friend
SPOILERS AHEADI’ve been reading The Walking Dead since I was 10 years old so when I heard it was ending I was pretty shocked. Still, I feel like it was time. Had it gone on any longer I feel it would’ve gotten really stale (Like the show did years ago.)I’m reading that some people felt the ending was too abrupt and left many things unanswered, but I disagree. We don’t really need to know what happened to Sebastian or why Maggie has become so cold. The whole plot of the series is about an ordinary man being pushed to his limits to make a very sick world safe enough for his son to live in, and ultimately he succeeds even though it costs him his life. This is NOT the show. This is Rick Grimes story and with the exception of a beautiful final issue he’s not alive to see we’re following him the whole way through. Not to say the series isn’t flawless. Juanita is an utterly pointless character as far as I’m concerned, but I can easily look past them.Overall this is the perfect ending to the series. A hopeful end in a very bleak world. You’ll be reminded of all of the characters lost along the way, how all of the torment they’ve gone through is finally vindicated. It just makes me happy.

Stupendous ending
Kirkman knows how to end a story. Sorry it's over but so glad for the journey. Highly recommend you invest the time reading this (and rereading to get more subtleties).

The best pay off for a long running series
I typically don’t like the hype people build around these big moments in these comics, the introduction on Negan, the whisperers, the governor’s raid, the end of the series, but in this case, this is my favorite Walking Dead volume. This is the only way it could have ended, and it works so well. The pay off of these moments is earned in the arcs and trials these characters went through to, and by the end I was literally dry heaving. My book has water damage from my tears on the last 70 pages, which took me 2 hours to read because I was so busy crying. It sounds like a joke, but it’s not. This is the most satisfying ending I’ve ever experienced to a story I’ve been following for the past 5 years of my life, and I’ve never been truly happy with a conclusion to a story like this. It would have been so easy to take a different rout for the ending and to do something that follows the trends of the books, but this series wanted to make people feel like they read something worth while. And I did. Glad I read these books and I got to see the ending we deserved.

The Bitter End
Getting this volume last night and then immediately stopping to read it was bittersweet. I loved it because I've loved reading them all the night that I receive them, but it's sad to think that this will be the last one I'll get. Thanks for the ride Kirkman! In terms of the volume itself, I mean, it's great. No spoilers, but while it doesn't really wrap up the story that's been building, I'm not surprised it didn't. Robert Kirkman always said that he wanted to write a comic book of what happens after the zombie movie ends. These 32 volumes are that book. You don't know what happened before, and there's plenty that's going to happen after, but that's ok. The book is, as always, written and drawn well. Issue 193 was great and a fitting end for the series, even if it left me wanting for more. It's better to keep your fans wishing for more than it is to overstay your welcome.

Walking Dead: Vol 32
SPOILER: It would have been nice for Kirkman to get to issue #200, but I’m glad he had the integrity to carry out his vision and not reach for a supposed “milestone.” Rick and Carl got the ending they deserved, and the flash forward leaves the creative team the option for revisiting the ten year gap at a later date. I have been a fan for years and have purchased every volume, and appreciate all the hard work that has gone into putting this world together. The Commonwealth was a cool concept, and definitely raised questions about social class and entitlement, but I’m glad that Kirkman didn’t sacrifice the good stories he’s known for just to keep it going. Thanks Rob for all the good times and for Rick’s realization that “we are not the walking dead” just fans of it!

Sadly it’s the end for the comics.
Well, this is the last issue of TWD comics. I was surprised that it was ended earlier or at all. But Robert and the others involved with this project and the half dozen other Walking Dead franchises has to be a huge strain on them and makes fresh ideas not come fast or often. It seemed a little rushed, and kind if left the reader hanging. It was obvious the writers had run out of steam. Even the best must come to an end. I’m hoping that with this burden off of Kirkmans work load that he can concentrate again on TWD and Fear which is in dire need of help in the writing department. But now we have the movies and another spin off series coming as well.

So sad it finally came to an end
Wish it didn't end would have liked to get a little more on each person that survived, how Maggie became president, negan, michone, the rest of them. It woukda been nice and I thought Carl was a so so character and that Herschel, Maggie's son was a complete tool but it was ok definitely not my favorite ending but one of my favorite series ever. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE MEMORIES,GOOD AND BAD

Unanswered Storylines
I loved the comic series and hate that it’s coming to an end. There are some question that we’re left unanswered. What happened to Neagan, As well as the final demise of Sebastian, after being locked up for life. You’ve opened storylines and didn’t complete them. The undead living and walking with the dead. These are only a few of the unanswered questions left behind. Other than my personal complaints, TWD was interesting reading and I know the writing comes to an end, I only wish the story line had covered more details on life after the commonwealth rebellion and mankind getting a stable foot back to a stable civilization.

Start living
Thirty second volume in the series of paperbacks which collect issues of the Walking Dead, popular horror comic about people trying to survive in the world after a zombie apocalypse. As ever, it collects various issues of the monthly title - in this case 187-193, and runs them all together into one long volume of black and white art. You can easily tell where one issue ends and another starts though. Also as ever, it's not a jumping on point. New readers should start with volume one. Not least because this is the very last volume ever. And it's also full of adult material, in terms of strong language and violence and the occasional adult moment, so it's only for mature readers. In order to fit all the remaining issues into this volume, it contains seven of them rather than the usual six. And the seventh was a double length finale, so this book runs to a little over 218 pages. So it's long. But the price hasn't gone up too much if at all, so credit to the publisher for that. As you do get your money's worth.Following on from the end of the last volume, things are kicking off in Alexandria as discontent with the leadership threatens to spill over into open rebellion. And Rick had to make a hard choice. As things escalate, he has more to face. What will this mean for everyone's future? It's going to be a matter of personal opinion how you think this works as an end, but I thought it was very effective. Nothing feels rushed or forced. It does stick to the key themes of rebuilding society and how best to do it, and does really make you think about the subject and what you would do in these circumstances. And it does keep you on tenterhooks wondering who is going to survive to the very end.It does try hard to let every character have a moment, and does pretty well at this. And it does all feel realistic in what happens, with everything being character driven rather than happening for the needs of the plot. The final issue is an epilogue. Which does some rather neat things in considering how times change and how people view the past differently, depending on whether they lived it or not. And it also does a very good job of giving an ending to all involved. There are some nice callbacks to earlier things throughout this volume as well. And one character in this one volume alone gets more to do than in all the previous ones combined. So that was a fun surprise. The idea, as an essay from writer Robert Kirkman right at the end of the book reveals, was to catch you by surprise by ending it when it did. Since so many books or movies or shows have endings you know are coming well in advance. This essay is a fascinating read and well worth a look, for what it tells you about the creative process. Of this series and in general. There was one subplot that did seem to have been hinted at in the last two volumes that it never gets back to. But that's so minor a complaint as to not even be a complaint.A brilliant end to a great series.

Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated? Contains spoilers!
The last couple of books have been utter rubbish and I was hoping (no, praying) that this finale would blow my mind. Hours of my life and hundreds of pounds I have invested in this series. So what do we get, there is a bit more of the latest survivors community story line (the dull storm trooper one) which could have slipped into the last book if we’re honest and then..........an ending of sorts.*****spoilers*****This ‘Carl talking to his kids, all grown up’ cut was predicted a long time ago (granted not precisely) but I can remember reading the suggestion there would be a statue of Rick holding his red raw stump aloft and even possibly this ‘Cowboy / Western’ scenario in the rebuilt towns.Seems to me everyone involved ran out of steam and we ended with a fall back scenario, which isn’t too bad, at least it’s finished. This could have played out about 10-15 books ago and maybe (just maybe) it would of had more impact! It ties things up (sort of) but why were we given back story and introduced to new characters such as Princess for the story to end? “You like being in your own Cos your family were horrible? Oh well don’t worry it’s done now”. Seems like lots of filler ideas have been squeezed in, and this was a wasted opportunity to develop other parts of the story. I’m glad we didn’t get a run down of ALL the survivors as to be honest, I can’t remember who any of them are. When did the tough shaved head woman come into it?.......doesn’t matter now.I think the scene featuring Negan (probably one of the best characters in this series) is my favourite, and he doesn’t even say anything.....plus, the more Maggie features, the happier I am that Negan showed her fella the baseball bat!Look, its not a bad ending but not one that made me reflect on everything that’s gone before or make me want to read it again. It’s a shame. Feels like this once exciting story has gone out without even a bang. Also, how likely is it that one of the survivors was a sculptor, or was the Rick statue trial and error? What happens when people die now? How did the foundries and train yards open again, the man power involved would be phenomenal?.........anyway, it doesn’t matter now...............ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?

Fitting culmination for epic series
I have enjoyed the whole series and felt sad when I found out that this was the last ever. I found myself getting emotional at a couple of points towards the end, and even saying goodbye to characters who had survived felt sad.The premise of this book is looking at how the survivors cope in a world of walkers - there is no cure, so they have to rebuild society with what they have. There is cause for optimism at the end though and the story ends in a way that leaves the reader hopeful for the plight of those who have survived and still living in this world.

What a good ending
Loved it, time jump was a little jaring however I loved the final epilogue and made me cry remembering all the people that were lost along the way. Never knew a comic could give me such emotions but it did and I can't wait to read them all again

A good Ending to the series
Having followed the story line from the very beginning it was a pleasure to read this final chapter, No Spoilers here, however I will say that it was a roller coaster ride, and enjoyed every moment of it.
