Great color changing bulb!
I bought this bulb to place in light fixture behind my television set so I could create a more realistic movie theater experience. This bulb worked perfectly. It arrived very quickly (less than a week) and was well packaged. The build quality seems very good, it feels solid and well put together and is compact enough to fit in all standard lighting fixtures. I also like the fact that you don't need a hub to control it, simply download the app and connect via bluetooth. The controls are simple and effective and and I particularly like the "candle effect" a random sort of flashing that mimics a campfire behind the TV. I also like the idea that I could buy more bulbs and control them all simultaneously with the same app...cool!My only criticism is that the software was a little wonky to install. The directions said to go to your App Store (IOS or Google) and locate the app. It didn't show up via the search feature for Apple. I had to go to the web site and select the IOS download and then I was redirected to the App Store where the app suddenly showed up...strange. It took a little fiddling to get it to link up but quickly all was working well.Overall I give this product two thumbs up for ease of use, functionality, build quality, and especially price!

Exactly what I wanted!
These are perfect for mood lighting, whether you want to relax or get your creativity flowing! The colors are beautifully vibrant and the app is incredibly easy to use. You're probably not going to find another light bulb that offers this wide of a selection of colors! In terms of brightness, one bulb isn't going to perfectly light up an entire room, but I wouldn't consider that to be a con. Just keep that in mind if that's what you're wanting. I use two of these bulbs and they fill the room with a luminous glow of captivating colors. Again, great for mood lighting, but you're probably going to want to pair them with other light sources if you're wanting to use them in a more practical setting. Overall, this product is exactly what I ordered and I would definitely say I've gotten my money's worth! 10/10 would recommend and would buy again!

The bulbs themselves are very high-quality. The apps-- not so much
I bought a large batch of these recently-- 5 of them directly from MiPow's website and 2 here on Amazon. I've been using PlayBulb for a while now, and I have the PlayBulb Colour, which I bought in 2014 during college-- and it still works today (December 2019-- 5 years later!). So I have a good amount of history with the PlayBulb brand. This particular bulb seems to be the latest in the PlayBulb series, and from what I can tell-- it's the only one MiPow actually sells anymore. The hardware quality of the PlayBulb Smart LED is FANTASTIC (as I expected), and they look awesome. I installed 2 of these in an outdated tracklight fixture in my parents' dining room, and they really look nice. These bulbs don't work *quite* as well if you put them in a traditional lamp with a shade, because they don't light up all around-- they only shine light out the top of the bulb (the majority of the bulb is a black plastic shell with the MiPow logo in white print). These bulbs really look their best when you have them installed in ceiling lights, like recessed light fixtures or even pool table ceiling light fixtures. The problems with PlayBulb begin to arise when you go to download the accompanying app. MiPow seems to have released two apps over the years-- PlayBulb 2.0 and PlayBulb X. Both apps will connect to these bulbs fairly easily, but they also both have their share of issues. I'll go into detail for both of these apps below:==================================================PLAYBULB 2.0PlayBulb 2.0 seems to be an older app, but it is actually quite nice if you don't have a lot of bulbs connected together. The app itself looks really stylish and I love the dark-red theming they built it around. Also, the groups function (when it works) is awesome, and the lights all synchronize perfectly and change seamlessly when you adjust them in the app. Another bonus is, this app actually works (albeit not perfectly) with my Android smart watch! WOW!But now onto the issues-- connecting to all your light bulbs is VERY clunky. Once you walk in range of your lights, you need to hit the search icon and *individually* tap on every single light bulb until all of the ones you want are connected. Every light bulb also takes a few seconds to connect. So if you use many PlayBulbs like me, you're going to quickly realize this takes an annoying amount of time. Another major issue with PlayBulb 2.0 is the stability. If you connect to more than (I think) 7 bulbs at once, the app starts crashing. Seven seems to be the limit for it. This pretty much defeats the purpose of having "Groups", because in order to connect to a "Group", you have to still select every individual light bulb anyway.PLAYBULB XPlayBulb X appears to be a newer app, and it's obvious that MiPow focused more on making a functional app than one that looks pretty. You still have to individually connect to each light bulb, but the connecting process is way faster and the app has an "Auto-Reconnect" feature, which is really nice. The groups feature seems vastly improved, and I noticed that Playbulb X is way more stable with a larger number of lights than Playbulb 2.0 was. The only real issue I noticed with this app is that grouped bulbs will show a noticeable lag. This doesn't happen in Playbulb 2.0. It seems like the connection in Playbulb 2.0 is stronger/more direct, but the stability of the app makes it more difficult to keep all the lights connected properly. In Playbulb X, the app's stability is much better and it can handle more bulbs at once, but the connection is "delayed". It's hard to explain without actually showing it in person or on a video._________________________Overall, MiPow's app support for these products seems to be very messy and inconsistent. Both the above apps work for turning your lights on and off/adjusting the colors, but they also each have their own individual issues that makes it difficult to use these lights. Frankly I wish MiPow opted to stick with PlayBulb 2.0 and improve upon that app, rather than completely re-writing and re-designing it from scratch into Playbulb X.=================================As far as the product as a whole go, the overall package is pretty nice. I am currently living in my parents' house and I have the entire basement to myself as my own little "apartment" of sorts, and these light bulbs work perfectly for that type of situation. However once I move into my own place, I probably wouldn't want these light bulbs unless I'm living in a small studio apartment. They're best for something like that, or a finished basement. If you're looking for a solution for every room in your house though, I'd probably go with a Wi-Fi solution like Magic Light, or Philips Hue (though that one's a bit pricier).

BEST VALUE for color changing LED light bulbs
I bought one in 2016 and another in 2020. I am happy with the purchases. The dedicated app for the LED bulbs always works and it's fun changing the colors at night when I want to relax watching TV. I also like that I'm saving on electricity using these. My only qualms is that I wish it had more distinct colors to change from. Sometimes when you change colors slightly (blue to another shade of blue) it will just brighten or dim the light and not really change the color significantly.

PLEASE UPDATE THE APP FOR NEWER PHONES!
I ordered this along with the orb they sell. It worked at first with my old phone, but now that I have a newer one they wont connect to the app. I have a Note 10+, so I know it's not the phone being off brand or something. Please update the app to be used on newer phones, otherwise my lights are permanently blue now.

Bad App - Good Bulb if it worked consistently
Works great when it works. The real issue is the app unfortunately . It desperately needs an update for mere functionality.
